Chiefs announce Bray as the backup QB
http://arrowheadaddict.com/2016/05/2...p-quarterback/
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid made a surprising declaration on Tuesday afternoon. The Chiefs are still a little more than two months away from the start of training camp in St. Joe’s, but we already have some very interesting news on the depth chart front. Reid has proclaimed that Tyler Bray, not Aaron Murray or Kevin Hogan, is entering training camp as the primary backup quarterback to Alex Smith. Murray was a fifth-round pick back in 2014 while Hogan was a fifth-round selection in April. Despite being an undrafted free agent in 2013, Bray has stuck on the roster but never appeared or been active for a game in the regular season. He was placed on injured reserve last year after sustaining a torn ACL in a pickup basketball game. Bray has all the physical tools you could want. He’s 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds and at 24 years old, might finally be seizing the moment after sitting behind Chase Daniel and Murray. It will be fascinating to see if Bray can hold off Murray and Hogan in camp, not having thrown a competitive pass in two years. |

With the offseason loss of Chase Daniel, the Chiefs’ No. 2 quarterback situation is unsettled at best. But not for a lack of options. Fourth-year pro Tyler Bray, third-year veteran Aaron Murray and rookie Kevin Hogan are auditioning for the job. With the first of 10 voluntary practices for organized team activities set to begin on Tuesday, someone needed to take the second-team reps. And that man was Bray, who spent the last two seasons on injured reserve. “Somebody’s got to be the No. 2, so he’s the No. 2 right now,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “We’re trying to get as many reps with each one of them as we can, but somewhere you’ve got to distinguish them.” Bray said he was told last week that he would open OTAs as the No. 2 quarterback. “Nothing’s locked in,” Bray said. “We still have a lot of time to go until the preseason.” Reid agreed, adding that Bray’s seniority — he joined the club as an undrafted free agent in 2013, while Murray was taken in the fifth round in 2014 and Hogan was taken in the fifth round this year — played a role in the decision to start him out with the second team. “That’s kind of it,” Reid said. “He’s been in here the longest of the three.” Reid said he needs to go back and look at the tape, but he thought Bray did a nice job on Tuesday. “He looked like he handled things pretty well, and I thought all the quarterbacks handled things very well — even the rookie,” Reid said. Reid said he expects the competition to continue throughout training camp. None of the candidates has thrown a pass in a regular-season game. “It’s as wide-open as you can get,” Reid said. “None of them have experience.” |

So they picked Bray to be the backup.
Funny...everyone had him listed 4th on their depth chart after the draft. Thanks for posting that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Good god this thread is a dipshit fest.
No spots are won in May and of course the back up with the most time on the roster will start with the top backup role. There's no message here. |

Yeah it means nothing not a damn thing that they gave the backup QB position to a player that hasn't played in a game, preseason is playing a football game, since August of 2014 instead of a player that has been on the roster going through the meetings and practices, getting all the other reps. If Murray would have been the #2 I am sure someone would have been crowing about how it meant the end for Bray.
But yeah none the less it doesn't mean a thing nothing those positions are not any kind of a guideline they are meaningless.
