Panthers rescind franchise tag on Norman, now UFA

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300...on-josh-norman

Quote:
The Philadelphia Eagles' trade up to the No. 2 of the NFL Draft is suddenly not the most surprising news of the day. Josh Norman is now a free agent.

The Carolina Panthers announced the stunning news Wednesday that the team has rescinded the franchise tag for cornerback Josh Norman, making him an unrestricted free agent.

"After a number of conversations with Josh's agent we realized that a long-term deal was not attainable," general manager Dave Gettleman said. "We have decided to rescind the Franchise Tag freeing Josh to immediately become a UFA. We thank Josh for all his contributions and truly wish him well."

Around the NFL will have more on this story soon.
I wish....

How many franchise tagged played have signed? Pretty sure I read somewhere that the chiefs are focusing on the draft and not contracts at this time.

Seems if we were gonna spend big on a vet corner whose 29, we should have signed the one that had been here for the past 3 years?

I bet he was going to hold out till week 10 unless they got a long term deal done.

I bet Von Miller has the same threat on the table.

Not to mention the one that is a perfect fit for our scheme vs. the one who isn't a good fit at all.

Why isn't Norman a good fit, again?

Just because he's played in a cover 3 doesn't mean he can't play press.

Dude is great in coverage.

The chiefs play their share of zone coverage and could obviously make Norman fit schematically.

But he's 29 and wants ALOT of money, after having 1 big year.

Norman is 28, js.

Not that I want them to sign him, have already voiced that I do not want that for a variety of reasons.

I actually won't be surprised if he returns to Carolina. They played it great. Now, he can see all of the shitty teams throw big bucks at him, only to realize he might rather return home to play for a little bit less.

All that new ink in his arm is bound to weigh him down a bit. We should probably trade him now while his value is still high.
