Changes that need made to turn the season around

Let's get right down to it.

Start Chase Daniel or Aaron Murray....I think the team would rally around either guy.
Run the ball more...get West and Sherman involved a lot more.
Start Conley and get him involved in the weekly gameplan...this should be our counter punch to teams consistently blitzing.
Activate Steven Nelson and have him play the nickel.
Feed the ball to Kelce and Maclin a lot more...especially on third down.
Let Howard have the NT job full time. The DL was stronger when he was playing more reps. At least IMO.
Move Poe to end full time.
Andy needs to hand over play calling duties to Childress, or Pederson.

I know there are lots of other changes that need made, but that should get us started.

I wouldn't say plenty of time. The ol has been mostly pretty bad. Below average.

But yeah, smith should be improving the ol. Rodgers put a clinic on how yiu address pressure. Hard counts go disrupt timing and finding the hot read on a Blitz pickup . I have never seen Alex do those things. Pretty clear Alex is only capable of running plays that are scripted for him. I don't think he's scared of pressure as many have said. If you improve his ol, he's still going to miss the Blitz pickups and he's still going to force 8 in a box, which will make your ol look worse than it is. He's never going to go through progressions... He'll continue to look at one read, then check down. Giving him more time doesn't solve that problem.

The line that gave the QB more time than all but one other team in the NFL last week is below average?

They're not going to bench Alex so at least do these two things... Put Childress on the sidelines to manage Andy. Do more no huddle. We seem to be most effective when we are trying to move the ball fast.

Maybe try out more read option. The only reason we don't do it is because we are afraid our QB will get killed. Our QB is going to get killed running a conventional offense so what's the difference?

That explains all of our awesome 2-minute drills.

You would be the only person in the world who believes our ol against GB played anything better than below average.

Alex contributed to a lot of that. But the ol was not good.

We are more effective in no huddle because we are down and teams are giving up the small stuff.

Going no huddle isn't going to change how ineffective this offense is when defenses aren't giving up the short stuff.

Fair point. But in a 2 minute drill, we work with a very limited route tree and minimal run and screen game. I'm not saying it's a solution. But when the offense isn't working it's something to try. Alex isn't going to outthink a defense so why not try to catch the defense a little off guard instead?

This is not an opinion.

It has posted numerous times that this O-Line was the second best in time allowed last week according to advanced stats.

Smith makes the ol look worse than it is. He can't burn a pass rush because he can't find an open receiver. This guy is a plague

And when everyone but godzilla's grandmother is lining up within 8 yards of the LOS, it's next to impossible to create running lanes.

Stats don't tell the whole story. You know this. Alex Smith doesn't make good first reads. he doesn't have many quick passes that bring that average down.

And Smith is good at escaping pressure. He may be worthless at throwing the ball after he escapes but he does buy worthless garbage seconds that bring that average up.

You don't have to sell me on the idea that Alex makes the Ol much worse. But there is no way anyone who actually saw the game, and not the stat line, could conclude the ol was anything better than below average. Giving Alex Smith ten seconds to throw because he escaped the initial rush is not good blocking.

I know that stats don't tell the whole story.

This stat simply supports what I see, and these stats don't factor in the time that QBs buy with their legs when they have to escape pressure.

Alex Smith, on average, has 3+ seconds before he is pressured.

This line is giving him more time than almost every other line is giving their QBs.

Alex Smith has been sacked 13 times thsi season, and I would venture to guess that he had 3 seconds or more on all but 3 of those sacks

Exactly my point. There is no reason to give Daniel playing time if the season is really lost.
