Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Don't forget the defense. Those clowns and a lot of actual fans here expect it to be a top three in the league, 2000 Ravens level unit based solely on how well it played last season.

It'll be a good unit for sure and you can guarantee it'll be in the top third of the league.. but I'll go out on a limb (which really isn't a limb, but wtf ever) and say it allows 30+ points a few times this year. The offense is going to have to play from a two score hole at some point...

A lot of people said Alex needs to step up too. But hey gotta leave that out bc it doesn't support the agenda around here.

17.6 points allowed per game. #2 in pass yards allowed per game. No 300 yard passers allowed all season. No 50+ yard completions all season. 22 sacks from one individual. Not a single penalty committed by our two best defenders all season.

I'd say we'll struggle to match a single one of those accomplishments this coming season. We're likely to regress from what was probably a top 3 unit last year to somewhere in the top 10.

Exactly.

I'm not sure the line with Mathis looks all that much better. Sure, it looks a little better but it's still shockingly thin at T.

I'd rather spend some money on Collins. Like you, I'm absolutely convinced that some combination of the guys we already have can do the job at G.

During draft season it's always "who !@#$ing cares about G; we can get someone that will do a credible job in the 3rd or even 4th rounds - NO EARLY PICKS ON GUARDS!!!" then come camp if you don't have 5 vested veterans suddenly people think Guard is some impossibly difficult position to fill.

We'll get credible RG play this year if we add NOTHING. I can't say the same for RT.

I'm painting with a broad brush here so forgive me. There's a huge difference between the blind ballwashing of a Sandy Cheeks, the homerism of a Seeing Red, and the realism of a DJ's Left Nut.

Honestly, it's just easiest to speak to the most extreme of Alex ballwashers. Guys like Sandy Cheeks and ViperViser have stated that Alex needs to step up but you can bet your ass they'll absolve Smith of any blame if any one offensive unit is bottom third in the league.

I'm really optomistic about the D.

I think we'll having growing pains this year but rival that Seattle D come next year...

I'd bet certain areas will get better and others will get worse. It's the ebb and flow.

I'm surely more optimistic than you, though.

The left side of the Broncos line is every bit the cluster that the Chiefs right side is, arguably moreso, and I'm supposed to abandon all hope because our swing tackle might not be good enough and a guy who improved significantly at G over the last 6 games last year (as a 6th round rookie) might actually have to start again.

Seriously, real football needs to get here quickly. This shit has been beaten to death.

I only keep bringing Mathis up because he's the one available.

OT is clearly the bigger issue, i just don't know of another answer

I wanted us to grab La'el Collins but apparently we weren't interested

The defense was great against the pass last year, terrible against the run.

I don't see why they'll get worse against the pass, they added to that area.

I don't know that they'll get better vs the run, they didn't seem to do much there.

Now that Poe is hurt, a regression is definitely on the table. It's hard to overstate the impact his ability to collapse the interior of the pocket has on an offense.

But Discuss Thrower was being a mopey **** about the defense WELL before Poe got hurt and with no legitimate justification for it apart from "it's all a crapshoot and we got lucky last year".

The talent has unquestionably improved on the defensive side of the ball. Unless we're all just feathers floating in the breeze, I'm not sure what the hell else you can ask for.

Good e****ingnough.
With the skill position players that we have, it should be.

They can always keep Sherman back to help on the pickups from the right side. Dude can block like a mofo.

They'll be okay, but they really should have addressed this issue in the 2014 draft versus scrambling yet again to fill those holes with substandard free agents or low round rookies. (Although Grubbs was a quality signing - just not enough considering the state of the C (after losing Hudson to FA), RG and RT positions.)

Dorsey banked on several things:

1. That Hudson wouldn't get offered as much money as he did and that they'd be able to sign him to a long term, home town friendly contract. Did not happen.

2. Stephenson and Allen would return to form that they showed at the end of 2013/beginning of 2014. Allen looks like he has improved. Stephenson obviously has not.

3. That Kush, being three years in the system, would be able to step in and provide adequate replacement performance for the departed Hudson.
- He hasn't or Morse is good/better and pushed him down.

3. That Fanaika would be good enough to supplant Fulton at RG allowing either Allen or Stephenson to win the RT position with the loser taking the swing, backup tackle position.
- He wasn't, but you hope that is because Fulton has shown that he's better than the others.

The hope is:

1. Morse is that good/showing that good as a rookie and he's just the better lineman. Being a rookie, he's going to screw up, but in the long run, he's the better choice.

2. The Fulton has improved to the point where they are comfortable plugging him in over vets like Fanaika.

3. That Allen is just flat out better than Stephenson and they want the best player on the right side edge and that's just the way shit goes.

If these things come to fruition, then yes, we will have a better line in 2015 over 2014 because these guys are just better because they are better.

If it's because certain players just suck and they are going with piecemeal/patchwork shit because it's too late to do anything other than stick on a bandaid and hope it stops the pumping bloodflow, then we are screwed.

I'm going to remain optimistic and hope that these guys are starting because they are just better and because of such, we will have a solid line.

However, as I stated, perhaps they should have pulled their ****ing heads out of their ass and addressed this situation in the draft:

Quote:
When the Bills released their first depth chart of the season on Tuesday, it confirmed what many people already believed: John Miller is on his way to becoming the Bills starting right guard for Week 1.

"John has been everything that's advertised," said Bills head coach Rex Ryan. "We brought him in here anticipating the fact that he probably would jump right in and he has."

I think Allen could be a good rt. With mathis next to him and mathis and Grubbs on the sides or morse, it should be ok
