Dorsey vs Pioli, What Say You Now?

It's been a rather interesting couple of weeks. I think it started with the Houston situation where a bunch of you folks felt that Dorsey was a doofus because he didn't lock Houston up last year. Then, I heard, Dorsey sucked because he overpaid Bowe. Then, at least initially, the sky was falling because he didn't wrap up Hudson last year. Then, he had the audacity to sign Mauga and Avant.

Now, we hear that guys are cutting their salaries in order to play for (can you believe it) the Chiefs!

Wasn't much of that happening back when Scooter was chasing candy wrappers, shutting blinds and placing the entire organization on Matt Cassel's rather narrow shoulders.

So, I ask, what say you now? (This is where you can actually say GOOD things about the guys running this outfit now.)

I'm all good. Let it fly.

But the bottom line is that life is just too goddamned short. You may not be here tomorrow. I may not be here tomorrow. The last thing I want to do is follow a team I hate or appear to hate.

This team has made a serious 180 in a very short period of time. They're not perfect and they've all made their Lion's Share of mistakes (IMO, Reid more than Dorsey, but that can be debated).

But liife is just too goddamned short to go poking holes for six years into a football team, especially a team that's made a radical turnaround.

Yes, he was a b/u. He was benched for Kap. We traded for him.

I didn't want Ca$$hole from day one. I hated the trade when it was first rumored. Of course, I'd lost my mind then as well because there's no way of knowing a $#itty player would be $#itty unless we watched him suck out loud for four years.

That's dumb as hell.
You draft talent to improve the talent on your team and to win games. The point is to find a franchise player at the position you select, not a b/u, and sure as hell not a b/u in the first round.

The draft is about finding the best talent available, adding it to your team, and making them productive players as soon as possible.

The problem is we let solid starters go. STARTERS.
We did not draft solid starters to replace them. We drafted contributors. Role players.

I'm not impressed with the job Dorsey has done.

I'm very impressed after two years with the job Reid has done. On a game by game basis Phat Andy has done some really stupid $#it but on the whole he's done a very impressive job.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Life is only too short if I let the roster moves bother me for more than just a little bit. The Chiefs don't rate really high on my "give-a-shit" meter, and haven't for quite a while, but I do enjoy discussing them. This is the only place I can get sports talk that is of a moderate level of sophistication.

One of the toughest schedules in the league, annihilated by injuries all year, and still end up 9-7, just missing the playoffs.

And if you don't think those injuries matter, think about what Berry/DJ/DeVito could have done for our run D at the end of the year. Even if they're not great, think about how much better the OL would have looked if we had the 2013 version of Allen and Stephenson.

This is a good supporting cast.

Did I miss that you're pursuing a medical career these days? If so, congrats!

My apologies for singling you out. That wasn't appropriate. But there are many people here that are never happy with the Chiefs, whether it's Carl or Pioli and now Dorsey.

When a person has been that unhappy for that long and can't find any joy in the dramatic turnaround, it's time to examine priorities, IMO. Yes, I was optimistic about 2012 based in 2011's injuries and performance and was wrong. But after 2007-2011, I felt that optimism based off the previous season was justified.

As for this regime, I've tempered my enthusiasm but it's difficult for me discount the direction in which Dorsey and Reid have the team heading. I don't know here they'll end up but for the most part, I'm enjoying the ride more than at any point since the 90's.

With that in mind, it would be difficult to dismiss what we know of the 2015 offseason and to temper that enthusiasm. We all want to see them win big.

The Chiefs always get my hate-o-meter going.
