But Duffy is better even against RHs than Guthrie is. I'd rather choose Guthrie over Vargas in this series I suppose..but you'll see that Vargas is listed as the Game 4 starter. Why not use Duffy in this series? Out of any pitchers with AT LEAST 145 IP this season, Danny Duffy was the 5th best pitcher in the entire AL this year. Use him.

Yordano Ventura in 2 career starts vs. BAL: 1.26 ERA on 14.1 innings with 17 K's & 3 walks. 8 shutout here at Camden in April.

I love these threads to damn much. So many of you freak the hell out when something bad happens. Such a beaten down fanbase. I get it. But it's pretty funny. Truthfully, I enjoy trying to pick you all back up and tell you to keep the faith. So far it has worked out.

McCullough says they're concerned about Duffy's mechanics since his injury. His last start he threw 60+ pitches in 2 innings. Gave up 2 jacks. And even though he got through an inning against the Angels, apparently his mechanics were still off.

He's probably not starting unless someone goes down. Or he gets enough work out of the pen to relieve their concerns.

Duffy has basically unable to throw strikes out of the windup during the last two starts. That's why the Royals are keeping him in relief.

Hey, here's an idea. Get rid of the windup, just have Duffy pitch from the stretch.

Kids learning to pitch today should probably learn how to pitch the whole game from the stretch anyway. The windup doesn't get you anything more than a psychological boost, and it would keep your mechanics simple.
