Just how valuable is a QB?

This poll has obvious "ulterior" motives - but play it out.

Would you rather have a Top 5 QB in the current NFL or the greatest left tackle of all time or the greatest pass-rusher of all time?

Poll forthcoming.

I just want to highlight this mini-conversation I've had with Rausch as a Class A example of pretzeling yourself in an argument.

Right. Obviously if Andrew Luck is there, you take him. Complete no-brainer.
And if you have Andrew Luck up there along with an A+++ OL, an A+++ RB and an A+++ pass rusher, you STILL take Luck. Because if you think there's an A+ QB, that trumps EVERYTHING.

But there's no such animal this draft, and it seems nobody thinks Smith is even an A.

I feel for you guys, but it seems the Chiefs aren't likely to take a QB at the top of round 1, which is going to lead to a board meltdown, but really shouldn't. Not to be Captain Obvious, but it just isn't a good year to have the #1 pick.

You two are talking right past each other, and neither one of you is looking the better for it. Some friendly advice -- stop now while you're losing (both of you).

Yay, the old "The 'experts' don't think he's good" argument - like the real experts are sitting around sharing their opinions with the world. It's like Andrew Luck has made the talking heads blind, deaf and dumb. Andrew Luck is a once in a generation prospect. The last time there was such a consensus prospect? Elway in 1983. So you'll pardon me if I don't care to wait around for the next "perfect QB prospect" and hope we have the number one pick that year.

#1) Well, I have watched as much of this kid as anyone - and I can tell you he's worth the number one pick. He is as worthy and has less question marks than Bradford did, for example.

#2) How long is KC supposed to go without drafting a franchise QB? You only miracle one out of the sixth round every fifty years.

#3) Next years draft class looks just as weak if not weaker than this years class.

#4) He will be taken in the top 5 before all is said and done, top 10 at the latest. But he's not worth the number one pick?

#5) QB is the only glaring hole the Chiefs have on the roster. We don't need a tackle. We don't need a pass rusher. We need a goddamned QB.

I'm sure this is going to be viewed by some as stupid, but would the Chiefs be wise to consider maybe drafting Roger's little brother Jordan (especially if he is available in a later round)?

My argument stands.

My bet sounds like a Buggs Bunny/Elmer Fudd bit that didn't go in my favor...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).
