Clark Hunt Statement

"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

Anyone could have guessed this season was going badly after 4 games, yet Romeo got another 12 to show the world hella stink in KC. That is Scott Pioli's power.

Haley was 5 - 8 and got canned mid season. That was Pioli's power grab.

This is not Clark Hunt we are hearing from Clark's mouth. This Is Scott Pioli's words, his spin coming from Clark's mealy mouth.

Y'all are being lied to. Pioli is gonna get more time in KC. He'll grab his boy Josh McD and away they go into 2013.

well im not defending Pioli but what are Clarks options?

Reid
Gruden
Cowher
etc etc etc

Clark is going to go through all of his favorite big name/total control coaches (whoever they are, the ones I listed are examples) and if one is legitimate and it works out, bing bang boom Pioli is gone.

But all the big name coaches could still go elsewhere/not coach/say no, Clark doesnt know until the legitimate interview process is over (still have to do the Rooney rule too)

so if all the big names shoot down Clark (possible) then he can rely on Pioli as a safety net to bring in one of his buddies, McDaniels, BOB, Saban, etc and continue this crap circus for another year of failure

I'd like to see Pioli shown the door today, too.

But the statement tells me that Pioli's just a lame duck GM at this point.

The fact that the GM is not running the new search for a HC is very telling. Clark's a systematic thinker. He's changing the philosophy and getting the HC he wants, and then the GM will come from that.

Evidently he's come to believe that it's more important to get the best HC who will then find personnel people.

I wonder if Hunt has an agreement already started with a big name coach and is just waiting to get it done before canning Pioli?

I think you answered it.

Pioli can stay and collect his checks if he's willing to be a eunuch. Clark is figuring that if he (Clark) hires a Cowher or Gruden with full personnel control, Pioli will resign rather than stay just for money and be humiliated as just a spreadsheet guy.

Right now, Clark is trying to find out if "his" coaching guy would work under those conditions. If not, he's gonna have to fire Pioli.

All Clark is doing at this point is showing he's a wishy-washy, gutless owner.

Forget about who is willing to work for Pioli, who is willing to work for Clark?
