It started in a small tavern round the 39th and Main area. Probably been closed now for at least 50 years or so.
Back then there weren't any "pizza shops" and it was rare to even find anyone who knew how to make them. My uncle had a part time job at that bar and started perfecting a recipe. And it was all from scratch, the spice mixture, the crust, everything. Even ground and spiced his own meats. What my uncle started, my dad continued. And starting probably about 30 + years ago, I mastered to a state of art. I've made a few attempts over the years to try some of the restaraunt pizza's but myself, my family and many of our friends have been ruined for any "bought" pizza forever. It all taste like crap made by someone who simply does not have a clue how to properly create pizza, who have never experimented with spice blends or know how to make a crust by mixing flour, yeast, salt and other ingredients. So all that to say the best pizza I have ever had comes from my own oven. We bought a commecial building in the early 90's but never followed through with our plan to open a pizza restaraunt due to the start up expenses. But to this day, I get requests for my pizza all the time. And whenever friends or family come in from out of town, they always insist that I whip up a batch. It really would be a tragedy if I ever had opened up my own shop seeing all those extablished chains shutdown and so many people lose their jobs. |

Exchequer restaurant & pub in Chicago. Best damn pizza that's ever crossed my lips. My mouth is watering just thinking of that euphoric gift from God.

I was talking to a friend of mine a couple days ago about Fun House Pizza on US 40 in Independence. It's been there for years. They used to accept cash only, now they'll take credit cards. Their pizza is very good, and reasonably priced. The thing that kills me is, inside, it's very dark, and they have hand written signs posted EVERYWHERE. Like "Keep off the bandstand," "NO Drinks outside," "DO NOT SIT HERE, AREA CLOSED," "NO SUBSTITUTIONS ON SPECIALS,"...stuff like that.
For a "Fun House," they have a lot of not fun rules! http://www.funhousepizzaandpub.com/ |

I have a couple. River City Brewery in down town Wichita makes an amazing buffalo chicken pizza. And then I went to Pitt St. and Wheat State Pizza makes a pretty good pizza for being a chain.

By a mile! They would would pay for your pizza if you could eat a medium alone in a half hour, I never came close. They packed on the meat and cheese. Over time, I guess because of cost they started becoming more and more like their competition. When the first opened it was amazing, and the best pizza I have ever had in any place I have been~

The best I've had is Reeds Spring Pizza Co. It's a little hole in the wall in Reeds Springs, Mo, but it was voted as one of the top 10 pizza places in America. It's pretty dang good.
