No team is giving up a second round pick for a guy they could sign for free in 2016. Kendricks is a good player but that's just way too much compensation. If he's traded, it'll likely be a 3rd-5th.

That's what I was thinking. Philly may be willing to do him plus a later round pick to get a second or third tho.

Since Kelly loves him some Ducks, what about giving him DAT & a pick for Kendricks & a conditional?

We can just draft Paul Dawson in the 3rd and save the money and pick.

Lol. Sure, we can. It definitely saves money and it definitely saves the pick. I also like the idea of having a rookie learn from DJ. Kendricks is a good player, but Dawson has the chance to be an exceptional player.

The more I think about it, the more I think we should do this.
DJ's on the last year of his contract anyway, and he's an old dude coming off an achilles injury. If we could get our DJ of the future for the price of a middle round pick, the only negative takeaway is that we don't get to take advantage of paying him jack shit rookie money for a few seasons, but DJ wasn't exactly playing like he is now when he was used as an OLB in the 4-3. Trade for Kendricks with only a 4th rounder? Done. Sign him to a DJ-like extension during the year. ILB problem = solved. |

But seriously. Paul Dawson hasn't shown shit that he can do everything that DJ does for this team at ILB. His lack of speed is huge concern for me. |

Overview Had dominant 2014 campaign, leading TCU with 136 tackles, including 20 for losses, and making 4 interceptions on his way to being selected Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-Big 12. Played in 12 games (7 starts) in 2013 while leading the team with 91 tackles (10 for losses). Had five 10-plus tackle games. Transferred to TCU in 2012 after one season at Trinity Valley Community College and was leader in special-teams tackles with seven. Wasn't recruited by many out of high school, so enrolled at Trinity as a receiver out of Dallas Skyline High School.

I look at a player like Vontaze Burfict who played intense football in college but got labeled as a guy who didn't give a shit when his slow 40 time showed up in tandem with his character questions. He's doing just fine as the MLB in a 4-3 system. I think a team like Minnesota will benefit the most from drafting Dawson. He would fit in great under Mike Zimmer. |

I see him as a UDFA, as teams and GM's are relying more and more on "Love of the Game". |

The difference is Kendricks is a proven commodity that could be had for a lesser draft pick than his value as a player would normally dictate. This would allow us the ability to draft another player with that earlier pick. DJ has one year left. I don't see him being able to mentor a rookie while trying to come back from his injury. Dawson has mixed reviews there are plenty saying he will not be very successful at the next level.

I'd love to add him and Brandon Spikes to the defense.

I honestly don't think it's a bad idea to make the trade for Kendricks and still draft an ILB somewhere around the thrid round.

How about a 4th for Mykal and dropping a 2nd for his little brother? We'd have ilb in the 3-4 sewn up for quite a while. I think the sibling rivalry would also really ramp up their competitive nature-- which you would want to see in your ilbs.
