We'll see how it plays out, but this feels like it has Paul DePodesta's name all over it... a move by an analytics based front office. The NFL is probably way behind baseball and basketball in terms of "analytics," so he's either going to revolutionize the sport or fail miserably. I'm guessing this won't be the first move he makes that seems really strange.

So if they trade or cut him, then basically they just paid $16mil minus whatever he gets on the open mkt or the team they trade him to gives him (not much) to go from a 4th-rd pick to a 2nd-rd pick.
Brilliant. Hard to imagine why they're not more successful. |

In another sense... is the jump from the 4th to the 2nd round worth $16,000,000? If you're a fan, sure it is, since it's somebody else's money. If you're running a football team, I don't know. Seems pretty spendy. |

So if they trade him to New England along with 2 seconds for Garapollo do they win ? Essentially theyd be getting Garapollo for a 2nd.

They have a salary floor they have to hit. If you HAVE to spend money it's a lot different than if you want to or not.

If the Browns are moving shit all over just to hand early picks over to the Pats for Jimmy I'm throw up. It will blow up in their face if they don't use their two first rounders on their team. They need them bad and Jimmy will not amount to anything.

The owner bought a late 2nd round for 16 million. That is a terrible decision, business wise. Hell, you want to spend money? Get Poe, buy more free agents, just don't throw money away. |

I would think those same teams still get the rookie qb. Sit them suck with, get another great slot and fill around your young qb.
