Holy shit Eliot Wolf is 34? That's really young for a GM, even if it is Ron Wolf's kid

Irsay was 25 when daddy gave him the keys to the Colts. Made him the GM 2 years out of college....surely based on his bonafides.

****ing nepotism cases in supposed meritocracies and highly competitive environments drive me nuts.

That's long enough for a coach to lose his job.

I do agree that the talent isn't as good as people had thought. That Offensive Line is pure shit.

This is a job exactly for a guy like Doug Marrone. A team in transition that needs to be coached up, well built and well disciplined. The next coach would take over in 2019 or 2020 and they're off to the races.

What even more interesting is that the NFC is in major transition. Arians may or may not be around much longer and they need a QB. Seattle, outwardly, is in a slight decline and Pete is 65 years old. The 49ers are shit.

Now is the time to build.

I think the spot would be perfect for someone like Gruden.

Stan has the money, Gruden likes every QB ever so he would be one that would like Goff and the LA media would go crazy for him. His ESPN gig is just too good to give up, though.

I agree 100%, and I bet for the right amount of money and control... Gruden would jump on it

He has the name and pedigree to generate fan enthusiasm, and a WCO is exactly what an arm like Goffs needs to make it work

ESPN Staff Writer

Add Washington OC Sean McVay to list of coaching candidates the 49ers have requested to interview, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. McVay joins Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, Atlanta OC Kyle Shanahan, Buffalo interim coach Anthony Lynn and Miami DC Vance Joseph as candidates in whom the Niners have expressed interest.

They'll suck.

Anybody that's been out of the game for 10 years will be woefully unprepared to step back into it, IMO. The hours and the preparation has been increasing exponentially for a decade.

The guy won a championship because his assistant didn't bother to change the terminology in Oakland after he took over the team. That's the NFL that Gruden left. The NFL he tries to re-enter will eat his ass alive.

He's gotten way too comfortable with his TV gig, IMO. He wouldn't have the drive to do the job right.

I totally disagree that he couldnt be successful again, football is still football... all of the plays called today are same ones he used to run for the most part, they're all just variations on the same theme

With his contacts and reputation, he would be able to assemble a solid coaching staff as well

It's not Madden. It isn't just the plays, it's when and how you call them. If it were as simple as just having the plays, every coach out there could run an offense by simply watching film for a year or so and stealing playbooks. It's tendencies, sequencing and little wrinkles you add to a route here and there.

He'll be outprepared every single week. He'd get blown out of the barn. It would be no different than when Spurrier thought he could work 20 hours a week and hang in the NFL like he did in college.

Unless he's willing to go back to the mattresses, he'll get smoked. I don't think he would be.

He would go to the mattress and be a coach again if thats what he decided to do... and its not like he has been away from football spending his days drinking and fishing in Key West

The guy lives for football and is hooked into the league and its trends... were I a Rams fan, he is my first choice

Gruden would be an spectacularly bad hire.

Hell, he wasn't even that good the first time around and left the Bucs organization in shambles.

Raiders, too.

Its up for argument at the moment, but he sure as hell wouldnt be a "spectacularly" bad hire... every damn word I said about him is true

He had multiple winning seasons, won a Super Bowl, and has the name recognition that would get casual LA fans interested again... werent you saying in weeks past that it would take name recognition/sexiness to get LA fans interested again?

If not Gruden... then who is the sexy hire, if not the one with a Super Bowl ring under his belt and the outsized personality?

Tom Coughlin?
