****Official 2018 Missouri Tigers Football Thread****

The beginning of the 2018 season is a little under five weeks away. Missouri enters the year projected to finish 4th in the East, and may be a borderline Top 25 team according to some projection systems. After a disappointing recruiting cycle last year, pressure is on Odom to restock the cupboard after the senior years of Lock and Beckner, who will go down as two of the better Tigers in history and likely first round draft picks.

Schedule:

Spoiler!

Recruiting:

Spoiler!

At this point, the class is ranked 68-69 nationally by Rivals and 24/7. Odom is going to have to rely on Pinkel's diamond-in-the-rough approach. It looks like they've pulled back considerably from Georgia, focusing more upon Texas, which is what they should have always done. Unfortunately, they've done horrific in-state, and I think that will likely end up being the nail in Odom's coffin after the 2019 season.

12/19 Update: A strong finish late in the cycle moved the class up significantly. Securing commitments from grad transfer Kelly Bryant and TCU transfer Shawn Robinson has solidified the QB position in the short and intermediate term. A class that was ranked in the 60's at the beginning of the season is now a top 20-30 class factoring in transfers.

Hamas' Crystal Ball: 8-4; 4-4 in the SEC (wins vs. Ark, Tenn, Vandy, Kentucky)

duncan:

Think the University will ever wake up and see that the SEC actually treats us no different than the Big 12 does except the yearly payout is greater?

We don't exactly do ourselves any favors with our bipolar football teams, our crappy basketball teams and the lack of a foundational program that makes us stand out.

But when it comes to putting us in pecking order..it's kind of like they say say...."oh yeah, forgot about Mizzou....let's send them to The Siberia Bowl.

I am more irritated about the fact that we should be in line for a better bowl but we were never in the running for say the Taxslayer Bowl because they wanted A&M or South Carolina no matter their record....heck I even thought I heard them mention Vanderbilt and not a peep about Mizzou.

Face it...the SEC sees us no better than Vandy, Ole Miss, or Arkansas even when we have a decent team.

I really don't see how Mizzou got screwed on their bowl selection. Outback and Gator took teams that are ranked higher than Mizzou. Music City would have been nice but that's a rematch against Purdue. Bowls don't go for rematches. Sending Mizzou to Charlotte would have been dumb. Texas Bowl was against Baylor. Go down to Memphis and play Oklahoma State. Easy travel from the state, good date.

Kelly Bryant decision day looming...not feeling confident as I think he's going to Auburn but it's not over until it's over.

Be curious what will happen with Stidham if KB does go there, a lot of smoke about him going to Oklahoma. Wonder if he'd consider Mizzou.

Eh. It ended up being the one that SI projected a few weeks ago and the one I really had little interest in. Memphis is a shithole and ultimately I'm just tired of being wedged into B12 matchups.

We'll have played 4 bowl games since leaving the B12 and 3 of them will be against B12 opponents.

I don't think we 'got screwed' but I don't think anyone did us any favors either. Just a 'meh' outcome.

You sure had a corncob wedged in your ass.

I think it's ok to state you'd rather not see another Big12 match up, or should we seek your approval before having that opinion? Especially one they've had in the last 5 years already.

Yeah, I don't either. This is what happens when you lose to Kentucky and South Carolina.

And I really don't mind the opportunity to thump the Baby Gooners again. I hate those ****ers.

I'm just tired of the seemingly annual referendum's on our decision to leave the B12.

If they lose that game, a meaningless exhibition, suddenly it's another wave of "The Tigers broke up the B12 and made a mistake by leaving!!!" nonsense.

I agree, but I could have even tolerated all of that if the match up was a more compelling one.

True, but on the other hand, for me it's more interesting to play a team we have history with, rather than one I never gave a crap about one way or another.

Remember the look on Gundy's face when he had to shake Pinkel's hand after the Cotton Bowl? I want to see that look again.

Can Bill Self coach Oklahoma State for the day?

I'd travel to Qatar for that one...
