Nolan's Batman 3 Title
Batman sequel 'Rises' again
LOS ANGELES - THE next Batman sequel has a title: The Dark Knight Rises. Distributor Warner Bros. confirmed the name for director Christopher Nolan's third adventure about the DC Comics vigilante hero, which follows Batman Begins in 2005 and The Dark Knight in 2008.

The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters July 20, 2012. Bucking Hollywood's current wave of 3-D movies, Nolan is not planning to shoot the film in 3-D.

Warner Bros had agreed with Nolan's argument that the sequel should resist the 3-D craze, the director told the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog, which first reported the title.

Nolan would not reveal what villain might appear in The Dark Knight Rises, but he said it would not be the Riddler, one of the key bad guys in the comics and past film and TV Batman tales.

Earlier this year, Nolan said he would not resurrect the Joker, the cackling villain played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Ledger won the supporting-actor Academy Award for the role, a year after he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. -- AP

Yeah, but it would be fun to see what another director could do with it. The first 10 Star Trek films weren't all directed by the same guy.

Nolan could give us a more serious, less playful Star Trek.

Rough cuts of movies are usually very long. Theres probably not many blockbuster event movies you cant find an early rough cut of 3 hours on. Its all subjective of course, but not every movie works at that length and not every movie should be 3+ hours.

Rough cuts give the director and editors a flexible piece of art to mold so to speak....

Okay, cool.

I'll do some more digging. I agree that the movie should have cracked the 3hr mark. And if there is footage to be seen, I hope we all get to see it. But Nolan isn't typically a "Director's Cut" kinda guy. My guess is the version in theaters is his final vision.

But, I'd welcome the exception in the case of The Dark Knight series.

Aren't there limitations to how long an IMAX film can be? That might have dictated the running time as much as anything.

The pacing on this movie doesn't work. It needed to be a.) streamlined, or b.) longer. Longer would be better, I think.

I've heard people talk about the pacing but don't understand the complaints? What was wrong with it? I didn't have any issues with it.

I wouldn't say the pacing doesn't work. Though it is flawed at times. It's not perfect, but it works.

I do completely agree that there is enough material and intrigue in The Dark Knight Rises that it easily could have been expanded into it's own trilogy. Would love to see a longer cut.
