Alexander Douglas Smith: 2016

We wouldn't we want to roll out another Alex Smith thread?!?!? Listen, for the Clay haters, this will probably be the thread that gets him banned. He can't help himself, right? Let's go!!!

First off, as many of you know, I have been very critical of Alexander Douglas Smith. Wasn't happy with the trade, HATED the extension, and have burned him to the ground from the beginning. So ****ing sick of the retread QB's.

So, that said Alex Smith is my Daddy. I mean, I just have to own that at this point. Here's why. He's never had continuity in a system. That guy had a new offensive coordinator just about every year until Jim Harbaugh showed up. And he flashed a little bit. That said, it sure looks like San Fran traded their best QB to us in favor of some douche that's starting some thing all over the league, while riding the bench to a guy named Blaine Gabbert.

Alex is now in his 4th year of the same system and it's showing. He's getting better. Why is he my daddy now all of a sudden though? Because he proved that he's more than just a game manager. He made some ****ing incredible throws against the Chargers last week. The back shoulder Maclin throw, the Maclin throw where Jeremy was almost killed, The Spencer Ware throws. Twice he hit him downfield (like, way more than 8 yards!), and then finally the Kelce throws.

People can give Spencer Ware a lot of credit, he is deserving of it after the monster game he had. Make no mistake about it though, Alexander Douglas Smith personally put this team on his back and willed them to victory. 1 play at a time. 1 throw at a time. He's a leader, and it reflected in the locker room after that game. They trust Alex now. They trust that he has what it takes to will them to victory in any game.

Alex isn't just a game manager anymore. He's a game changer, and a leader. This team could go 6-10 this year and I'll say the same thing. He has the ability and he's proven it. Now let's see where they go with it. I'm officially a YUGE Alex fan. What do you think? I'll take your comments off air.

Chiefs 9.7 and 9.3 YPA last two weeks respectively vs 6.4 first 4 games. Eight 20+ yard completions in last 2 games vs. 9 in first 4 games. That would be something that will result in future success for this offense if they continue it.

The throw Alex made to Conley in the 4th quarter was everything we have asked for from him. He has it in him, he just needs to pull it out a few more times a game. Steps into an incoming hit from a pass rusher, goes through his progressions, and makes a great throw. Most importantly, pushes the ball on 3rd and 17 despite having a lead and only 6 minutes left in the game.

It doesn't mean jack if they only score 17 pts.

We just put 326 yards & 20 points on a defense that is giving up 403 yards & 32 points per game. That's Vermeil level defense.

A win is a win and they are great, but it's ok to say the offense needs to produce. Saying you want the offense to produce doesn't mean you are hoping for more fantasy points. It means you can recognize an issue that, if it doesn't change, as the season goes on will become a bigger issue in bigger games.
Well said. Noticing issues during wins doesn't make you a debbie-downer and noticing positives during losses doesn't make you a homer. Winning the turnover ratio is wonderful but playing a team like NE in the playoffs, especially in NE won't often lead to a lot of turnovers. The offense will need to do it's part. Looking at the big picture is also a sign of optimism as a fan, it's not trying to gloss over a win.

But that will help produce points over time if it's maintained IMHO. If anything it supports the argument that the points are more a result of offensive philosophy with leads the last 2 games more then it is an offensive production issue. I do agree that the philosophy needs to get better, and may not, with Reid. I also think the offense needs to improve.

I don't think looking at strictly offense points against OAK and NO is being fair in evaluating the 2 games nor in predicting future results. There have been other factors. Overall the team is getting better. It's not a straight, steep positive slope like we all would love. There are steps back and major room for improvement. If the YPA were to continue I think this offense will eventually see more results in points.

As always, these numbers are deceiving when it comes to Alex Smith.

Against the Saints...take out the screen pass to Ware and it falls to 7.3 YPA.

Drops happen every game...46-yard screen passes don't happen often.

And with the great 3rd and 17 play, right after came the horrible 3rd and 2 screen. There again though, is maybe as much a play call issue as it is anything else.

BULLSHIT.

pick and choose and come up with a stat to fit your narrative, otherwise you can do it for every qb in the league.

But Andy Reid teams that lost by 10 or more never came back to win the following week I thought?
What happened to that cherry picked stat again?
Oh wait.....

Kansas City Chiefs @ Indianapolis Colts

11. QB Alex Smith has an adjusted completion percentage of 78.2, fifth-best for quarterbacks.

Alex Smith has gained a reputation for throwing short passes, and rightfully so. This year, his 7.3-yard average depth of target is tied for the league’s lowest mark. On the bright side, he has been throwing those short passes very accurately. This week he faces a Colts team who has the lowest coverage rating by PFF standards, so Smith may have an opportunity to extend that accuracy to the intermediate and deep levels.
