Because he's a veteran who can do it. You have to eat innings from your starters. It's one thing Ned has done right all year. Our bullpen is a great weapon, but it needs to be rested for the playoffs.

Look at it. Holland's dealing with stiffness, Davis had back issues. Hoch is coming off Tommy John. You can't run these guys out there everyday. They played all the way through game 7 of the World Series last year, and will have to pitch in the playoffs again this year. That's two seasons of extended wear on our arms.

You do realize we have a zillion guys in the bullpen who haven't thrown in forever, right? It's not just HDH...

I would suspect by September call-ups, there will be a influx of pitchers this time around for the bullpen. Then use them to conserve Hoch, Davis, Holland, and Herrera innings and get them rested up.

Either way, they all need to be well rested. We are 5th in baseball in bullpen innings. We are 26th in starter's innings. Our guys are not well rested enough at all. Especially considering we're going to throw playoff innings on top of it. It's amazing we've had the success we've had with those numbers. The other teams with those kind of numbers are the Rockies, Phillies, Diamondbacks, etc. Teams who aren't very good.

Royals need to take notes at how Guyer let that ball hit him. You always let an offspeed pitch hit you unless it is the hands or head (and balls).

We are 26th in starters innings because of Duffy and Ventura. No reason to Gil Meche Volquez. Ned made the right decision.

I doubt this board will ever understand a rested pen. I have to tell people in here all the time you can't just pitch HDH every ****ing close game.
