Well, as I've said, you have two options. Run a freelance offense where Big Ben will take 40-50 sacks, probably even more (given how shitty the offensive line and running game is) and get hit even more during a game. Or run a ball control offense. The answer is probably somewhere in the middle, but what confuses me more about the insistence on a very conservative offense is that if the Rooneys really wanted to run that, then why skimp on offensive line and RB talent?

He was never elite, he was always overrated, and now he's old. No thank you.
Alex Smith is a better option today. |

Roethlisberger has taken more hits and sacks under Haley than he ever took under Arians.

They brought players in, sure. But they sent a pretty strong statement that they wanted to protect Ben by firing Arians and bringing in Haley. I guess I just don't think that bringing in DeCastro and Bell to an already disastrously bad o-line and RB is really considered doing enough. |

The thought was the right one. The execution was just terrible. Haley hasn't adjusted to the talent, and the front office didn't adjust to a new scheme they heavily endorsed. That and just bad luck on the injury front.

But the one really glaring issue with the high profile QBs is their contracts. Can we even afford it, without hurting the rest of the roster. Although that said, I expect them to extend Smith this offseason, and he won't be cheap either. But still likely cheaper than Roethlisberger. |

As bad as everything else has been, there is some blame for roethlisberger. He hasn't played well at times either

He needs to go back to his early days. Run smash mouth football, force defenses to defend the run, and have a defense that can make up for Ben's mistakes. None of those things are in place now. So what you have is Ben trying to run an offense he's too old to run, and a coach who is insistent that he do things exactly that way. His career can easily be saved if he had a system that could actually run the ball. |
