I don't know that I've ever thought about this possibility until now, but; what are the guidelines regarding turning in line ups? I mean - they have to submit by "X" o-clock and can only make changes if there's an injury between that time and game time ...? - can someone refresh my memory on the protocol there?
Thanks in advance... |

The manager can make any change he wants, as late as he wants, for any reason or no reason at all... right up until the lineup card is given to the umpire. It is not set in stone until then.

Good to know. Thanks. I thought once they were posted they were concrete. Thanks. Learn something new every day.

Yeah, I once saw a late scratch like 20 minutes before the game because the manager chatted with one of his coaches and realized a player hadn't had a day off in a while. They still usually manage to coordinate all late changes with the rest of the team and MLB, but it would be hilarious if one day the PA announcer announced the starting lineup and the manager hands in a card that has something else on it.

I went to a game in 2008 where Joe Torre ****ed up a double switch and had to burn a bench player without putting him on the field because he didn't follow procedure correctly. It was ****ing hilarious.

I saw don mattingly screw the pooch where he ended up losing broxton because he double visited the mound. Bochy called him on it, and the giants won a crucial game in 2012 down the stretch.
