And you watch men get killed and beaten on screen all the time and don't bat an eye. I kinda expect a movie called hateful eight to be mean spirited. |

I thought it was good. I thought the pacing was a tad slow. I do not expect a tight 90 minute movie from Terintino, but this movie is nearly 3 hours long. I disliked in the who dun it part of the movie, the script quickly narrows it down for you. Damnit, I was trying to figure it out on my own!

Stayed away from the leaked script. Saw Tatums name in the opening screen credits. After intermission it came up, where is he?

The first part was a typical Agatha Christie remake for those who has seen one. I just love watching Tarantino's movies on a big screen. 70mm, yowsa! Tarantino is going to use the N word and there will be gore. I think he uses both way too much and has the talent to never do either in his work but, its his style and vision. People bitching about the violence or the N word are a waste of time to argue with here or anywhere else. I'd say he is my favorite director these days. It's not that the movies are so fantastically better than other directors but just the way he tells them. The visuals combined with the score that no one else can or are doing at this time. I felt I was watching an adult cinema movie and not just another adolescent comic book movie. Loved the old school intermission and opening overture. Well worth the 40 minute drive to watch it in 70mm.

I get the pros and cons of QT's use of the n-word, but he still has 'Hey, that's Tom Cruise' disease where the dialog comes off as what QT wants people to hear/say rather than the character's natural dialog.
Compare with Deadwood, where the people cursed as natural as breathing, yet they routinely managed to carry the emotions and beats of the situation much more naturally. Heck Bruce Dern himself played a just as hateful and spiteful old coot in Big Love, with a lot more nuance and naturalism.

Like I said, Milch didn't have the same problem on Deadwood.
