Considering a vacation to Atlanta

The kiddo may or may not be coming with us.

Just wondering what to make sure to do while we're there. We decided on Atlanta because neither of us has been there, and it is home of the largest aquarium in the US. Other than that, I'm not for sure what it's known for as far as tourist attractions. I'm commencing Google searches, but I'd just thought I'd also see if anyone on here who either lives there or has been there can suggest some things. Thinking July or August.

Just in case we take the kiddo, he will be 16-18 months at the time of the trip. If you list something, please say whether it would be appropriate (or geared towards) children.

Thanks!

Right in the heart of the city. Ouch.
I'm watching this on the news right now. I'd be willing to bet more than a million cars travel on this stretch of road daily.

Thank God I don't need to be near there other than to eat somewhere fun.

Yeah, that looks like a total cluster****. It'll take them some time to fix it, too.

Virginia is beautiful—much more so than Atlanta. Although both have some colonial/Federalist era homes with lots of charm.

I worked in Atlanta last Wed to Sat. I hate when they send me there to work though. For pleasure, it's not so bad. Has some very nice restaurants.

lovely contribution to the thread and very complimentary of Atlanta. You seem nice on here.

The Atl will in deed be hot in July and August but not Houston hot, but besides the dubious judgement about vacationing there in the dead of summer what's your problem with ATL ? I lived and worked there for a year back in the 90s and came away with nothing but good thougths & memories of Atlanta.

Downtown Atlanta is super crowded and there's someone every 5 feet begging for spare change. It's like New York without the culture and fine dining. It should definitely not be on anyone's vacation list, espescially in the summer.
