Cold Brew Coffee.

Recently I was perusing the coffee snob thread and came across the cold brew coffee conversation. I decided to try some. It's fantastic!!!

I like coffee. But I can't handle anything hot in the summer. I talked about it with Silock when he was pounding the coffee on a cut diet and he said drinking hot coffee in the summer should help the body handle the heat, physiologically. Despite all that I can't do it. I just seem to be hot and miserable all day.

It takes a little planning to make happen but if you like coffee make it. You'll thank me later. It even makes Folgers taste good!

NewPhin and FMB need to get in here so I can rep them for motivating me to make it.

OK. I'm done evaling. Cold brew is truly superior, as many of you have noticed. I don't drink a lot of coffee because it is a pain in the butt. Thus, also, not much of an expert.

Both cold brew machines work and taste MUCH better than the brew normal and put in a pitcher in the frig, as it is a hot brew method. Or filter cold water through a strainer full of coffee into a pitcher (takes to long to go through the filter media).

Both the cold machines results are almost the same. They both yield about the same amount of fluid. The Takeya leaves more grinds in the fluid vs OXO. Thus the deciding factor is space and cost. The Oxo will require a fair amount more vs the Takeya, which just a 2 qt juice pitcher easily stored. The other is the cost. $26 Takeya vs $44 Oxo. I have the Oxo at the office (more counter space), Takeya at home (more cabinet space).

Both provide about a weeks worth of coffee (~1/2-1 cup/day). They recommend cutting with ice/water/booze/whatever. I drink 'em straight for max bounce.

I haven't played with different types ie. French Vanilla. I am just using a normal House Blend - Dark.

The "creamy" taste of the cold brew is enticing without the acidic bite of the warm brew. I might become a coffee "snob"

That might work!!

Saves time and work/space/COST.

I think you need to compare to the normal cold brew though. That Takeya is not very expensive and worth a try.

I am no expert. It is kind of fun to make your own stuff and experiment. I am looking forward to trying French Vanilla.

Good lord!

Is your brewing technique going to suddenly change coffee into something that's not coffee?

Go to Starbucks for that.

Hot brewed good coffee for me. Thanks.

And you don’t need the thingy. All you have to do is put the grounds in a pitcher, dump the water in and stick in the fridge for 12 to 24 then pour over a filter. It does take more grounds but it is a super easy process that yields great tasting coffee.
Just having the water below boiling makes a big difference.

Your typical home Drip coffee maker uses steam to drive the process.

But a fancy system will pump hot water that is not boiling and you don't get as many bitter oils.

Or if you do pour over coffee by the cup at home, use a few more coffee grounds and use water that is hot but not boiling and you can get a better cup.

Especially with the lighter roasts.

Dark roasts are already burnt coffee so it doesn't really matter what you do with them.
