Christopher Nolan's next: 'Interstellar'

Loved it. Only criticism was that all the stuff with Mann felt a little off. Otherwise, just amazing. Great movie.

(No issues at all with the sound, but I didn't have any problems with sound in any of his previous films either)

Not sure how to express it, but it gave me a sense of wonder that I haven't felt for years, since I was a kid. Used to dream about being an astronaut, and it rekindled that feeling.

Nearly forgot, one other thing which annoyed me was Anne Hathaway's big speech. You'll know it when you hear it. Almost pulled me out of the movie. But not quite. Its connection to the resolution was a little disjointed as well, but I was fine with it.

I've been leafing through some threads online the last hour or so and most of the complaints I've seen strike me as people who aren't quite as smart as they think they are looking really hard for things to complain about, but that's what I get for surfing film snob webshites. There's also a lot of Nolan hate in general, which doesn't come as a surprise.

There are some very big ideas in the movie. On the surface it seems like Nolan/screenwriters wrapped up things nicely with a bow, but I left feeling the wormhole events were left to interpretation. Cooper made some assumptions that may or may not be correct about what was going on, and who or what was responsible. But maybe I've been reading too many books with unreliable narrators lately, it's all cut and dried and obvious and I'm falling into my own trap of thinking I'm smarter than I really am.

IMO, it was a very average bordering on being awful. The separation from reality in this movie was too great to redeem itself.

Yes, but this movie has totally different air about it and its explanation and non-explanations

I saw it at 8 last night at TownCenter 20 in Leawood. Acoustic issues for sure, but nothing that ruined the movie. I have to agree with Dane on this as well. It was definitely the local sound system and not the film itself.

As far as the film went, I think I liked it, but I do not know if it was actually a good film. I absolutely love scifi; the headier the better. This wasn't so heady, but quite abstract, which I did adore. It also has some very emotional moments, which are also pitfalls for me, and sucker me into loving films that aren't great.

Currently I am thinking of this film as a lollipop.

The start of the film is quite generic and bland, straightforward and damn near boring; like the stick that holds the sweet sugary end of the treat up. Then comes the payoff, the lollipop itself, and what everyone came for. It was beautiful for sure, and it did have some sour notes for me (the love speech), but it also had some surprises (Matt Damon), and good story telling (human fear and need for survival).

The abstract portions of the film were great. At least for me. I am not the most intelligent person in the room typically, but I can keep up. Some folks leaving the movie admitted they hated the abstract portions and the ending because it didn't make sense to them. It was the portion that saved the film for me.

Movie was visually impressive and well acted. Plot holes almost completely ruin it.

The time shift that slowed time on the water planet was a known issue. Yet somehow all these scientists had no idea that the original scientist would have only just arrived and therefore any info from the planet was worthless. Blew me away that the Nolan's could just miss that glaring error.

That one alone is a script wrecker. There are some others. I won't list all of them

One I thought was weird.... why was Anne Hathaway still alone on the new planet? Waiting for miraculous black hole travelling McConaughey?

Saw it Tues night. Definitely had sound issues. It was hard to hear the dialog at various points. Over all its a decent movie but I don't think I would classify it as spectacular. I was really looking forward to it because I'm such a science fiction nerd but like Promethius.....it was a let down. It has its moments but didn't quite do it for me.

Plot holes? Yes, it's a ****ing movie. Deal with it. It's about the characters, not the shoddy science.

Having seen it once, I probably won't ever see it again. Maybe I will. Kinda doubt it. It was too long, for sure. But it's worth watching, absolutely.

The characters spent a LOT of time debating their "shoddy science". It was a science fiction movie. The entire plot was built on the "shoddy science". I'm even OK with them playing fast and loose with the rules of time and space. Like you said, "it's a ****ing movie". What I'm not OK with is establishing that these characters are world class astrophysicists only to have them make a mistake so blatant that a guy that hasn't taken a science class since high school was floored by.

I have loved some of Nolan's work. He is a talented filmmaker and Batman Begins alone basically gives him a lifetime pass with me. But the guy breaks his own rules all over the place to contrive his dramatic scenarios. This one was probably his worst. I just wish I didn't have to suspend my logic, let alone my disbelief when it came to his last several films.

I enjoyed the film. It's visually impressive enough to recommend people see it in the theater, but it's plot keeps it from being great. That's all I'm saying.
