CBS NEWS: Hot Sauces Ranked By Heat

Hot sauces, ranked by heat:
http://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/hot-...d_id=61806652/

The listicle goes from one to twenty nine, even though they are listed as 1-30 with number 30 missing. Here are a few of my favorites from the list that I have tried and enjoyed over the years-other than that last one. I have never tried the stuff but I want to cook with it at some point, before I'm so old that it will kill me. The article has pics to jog your memory. Click on it to see them.

    • 26. Taco Bell Fire Sauce
    • This is the hottest sauce served in packets at the popular taco chain. It has 500 SHU... nowhere near the top of the scale.
    • Credit: Tacobell via Instagram
    • 24. Valentina Salsa Picante
    • Valentina Salsa is just starting to gain popularity in the United States, but it's the best-selling hot sauce in Mexico. It brings 900 SHU.
    • Credit: SalsaValentina via Facebook
    • 19. Valentina Salas Picanto - Extra Hot
    • Valentina's spicier version delivers 2,100 SHU — more than double the heat of its original.
    • Credit: SalsaValentina via Facebook
    • 18. Huy Fong Foods Sriracha Sauce
    • Sriracha creator David Tran said he set out to "make a rich man's sauce at a poor man's price."
    • The company has never advertised its products, but in 2010, Tran had to open a 650,000-square-foot facility to keep up with demand. Sriracha clocks in at 2,200 SHU.
    • Credit: Huyfongfoods via Instagram
    • 14. Tabasco Original Hot Sauce
    • The ubiquitous hot sauce has up to 5,000 SHU.
    • Credit: Tabasco via Instagram
    • 8. Dave’s Ultimate Insanity Hot Sauce
    • Dave's Gourmet recommends you use this sauce "one drop at a time." It boasts 250,000 SHU.
    • Credit: DavesGourmet via Facebook
    • 1. Blair’s 16 Million Reserve
    • The hottest hot sauce isn't really a sauce at all. It's packaged pure capsaicin crystals (the chemical compound that makes peppers hot), and is "not to be consumed or even opened without using extreme caution."
    • As the name suggests, it clocks in at 16,000,000 SHU.

I love spice and a bit of heat, but too much really kills the enjoyment... never understood the fascination with 'how ridiculously hot can I make this?'
I like the really really hot stuff mostly because I can make a whole pan of stuff hot with just a little bit. Clears up the clutter, instead of having 1/2 dozen huge bottles of weak ass sauce, have a little bottle you dispense a drop or two of at a time.

I also love Scorpion Pepper salt. Just shake a tiny bit on mac-n-cheese and you have a hair-sweating hot meal and you resist the urge to put too much salt on it.

When my beans are ready, a big bowl of them will get about 5 drops of this. [it's actually flavorful because they 'cut' the heat with pineapple extract, so it's a sweet hot]

If it works for you, great... but I'm not into 'hair sweating' meals, at all

If I'm busting out in a sweat while eating it, it sucks as far as I'm concerned... served with a Filipino dude who ate every meal he could like that, face was totally flush, dripping sweat

**** that, I wanna taste the food

There's a vast range between mildly spicy and inedibly hot.

I prefer my food on the spicier side, and I guess I'm both blessed and cursed in that when I eat spicy food it's all over my face [sweat, nose running, hair sweating], but it doesn't bother my digestion and the effect on my taste buds is passing.

So I look a mess for a few minutes while I wolf something spicy down, but then I get all the endorphin rush and metabolism raising the spice brings along.

I do still taste my food, and one of the best tastes is the heat. It enhances the other flavors, and I enjoy the experience more than a less spicy version.

Saying you like spicy, but not so spicy that you sweat is like saying you like sex, so long as you don't make the 'oh-face.' Some joys in life are messy.

So far as that goes, they probably sell close to a 'couple hundred' Z-mans every hour every day they're open.

But in particular here on CP, not knowing what a Z-man is is analogous to not knowing who someone is talking about when they say 'Dammit Carl'

But we aren't mad, just disappointed.
