I can think of one or teo. Getting a 5th round pick from the fins for a pretty much done Trent Green was a win. I think looking at players traded for, Willie Road was a win for the Chiefs. A lot here say Alex Smith was a bad trade for the Chiefs. I say it was a fair trade. Nobody lost. We needed a QB. Reid got us a good one. Yes I would like to have those two second round picks, but his performance in the playoff lost was with it.

All that being said, trading Berry is ridiculous. He'll why not trade everyone that has value and start over if that's such a great idea. Trade Hali, Houston, DJ, Charles, A Smith, Flowers, and Bows too. Unproven players in the draft are better right?? Mellinger is way off.

Just for the sake of the topic, let's say we do the deal with the 49ers for both of their seconds... #56 and #61... and one of their thirds... #94.

Fill in some blanks with names, and see what you can come up.

If any team is willing to give us 2 second rounders in this draft and a third, we would be reerunED to pass on that opportunity.

I don't expect it to happen. Just saying 49ers have more draft picks than they need. And they need to challenge the Seahawks now, not down the road. Our pick for Smith back, and their second and third. They are all later round picks. Just trying to play Mellinger's game to see what we could come out of this with.

Edit: Mellinger did say a 2nd and a 3rd - perhaps more, so I am going with the more part.

Berry is asked to be a QB for the defense
He has been exceptional in run support and has range to make plays most safeties cannot
He led the league in pass rush attempts, QB hurries, and sacks among safeties
And he has become very strong in pass coverage

He's been an impact player. Just in different ways we thought he would be. Not sure why you keep undermining his value.

It helps that this draft is very deep this year thus the Niners might feel they could afford to give up some picks as well.

I like Berry BUT no he won't UNLESS he starts playing or allowed to start playing at Earl Thomas level.

I don't see why he couldn't become the best safety in today's NFL. I think his work ethic is going to put him over the top one day.

Why do you say that?

For as much as people keep throwing the name "Jairus Byrd" out there as an impact player, how good has Buffalo actually been on defense until this year? The defense has been on the bottom until this year, when they added Manny Lawson, Alan Branch, and Jim Leonhard.

Berry is an impact player that isn't a QB. Like any playmaker, he is a guy to build around, not a guy who can impact the game on his own.
