Revisionist GM: would you have drafted Manual or Geno instead of trading for Smith?

All this 'hate on Alex' talk lately.

Well, what would you have done that would have made us better? Be honest

QB's are responsible for wins or losses ...

unless it's Alex Smith. He's only responsible for losses (which are always his fault).

but that Mark Sanchez ... he really turned some heads this year with his 14 turnovers in 8 games and his 4-4 record where the 4 losses were all the fault of the defense and the 4 wins were clearly because Mark Sanchez is an elite NFL QB.

I'm actually very athletic. I just have a poor three-point shot since I don't play basketball much.

That's where this "unathletic GoChiefs" urban legend sprang from. Hootie saw me posting about my terrible shooting on facebook and decided it meant I also had no ACLs and zero hand-eye coordination.

A few truths about my athletic career:

1. Regular flag-football dynamo in my pre-teen, low-fat days.

2. Can hit an 80 mph pitch provided a machine is throwing it.

3. Known to go on sporadic 10-for-20 3-point shooting hot streaks in 24-hour fitness gyms. Just need to work on the 2-for-20 sandwich around it.

4. Once burned First Down Elvis very badly with a double move. Poor pass led to an incompletion.

5. Can run a 5.9 40-yard dash.

6. Can nail Counterstrike headshots all day without hacks.

I would have taken Geno with our 2nd round pick over Alex for a pair of twos. I would Not have taken EJ for a mid-first pick (or the number 1).

It is what it is and we have who we have. If if's and but's were candy and nuts we'd still be stuck with Alex.

I've never played a down in my life, either.

'Course my school didn't have a football team until my sophomore year. Which was the fall following the summer when I tore my acl playing basketball. Because of course that's how my life goes.

Still love football anyway.

And really, REALLY hate basketball...

The title of your thread doesn't match your question.

No, I would not have chosen Manuel or Geno Smith.

Its not that simple you would have to completely redraft every pick we made those 2 years.

That being said I wouldn't trade Smith straight up for either of the 2 right now.

do you pay Brandon Albert instead of Dwayne Bowe then? no Eric Fisher?

or do you take someone different 1st overall? (who? there is literally crap in the top 10.) I think they scouted Ezekiel Ansah, or the obvious picks Sheldon Richardson or Star Lotulelei . Every other player is as bad as fisher.

so you are basically looking at

1.1. Geno
2.1. Kiko Alonzo? Darius Slay? Zack Ertz?
3.1 Travis Kelce

or

1.1 Star? Ansah? Richardson
2.1 Geno
3.1 Kelce

would that make us a better team today? assuming you actually hit on that extra player? There are a lot of shitty players in the draft. The odds aren't good you are nailing it with that Alex Smith pick.

pending on what you did in the '13 draft though would affect the '14 draft and you may not have to take Dee Ford in the first.

our record would be a lot worse thanks to Geno Smith so we probably would be picking higher, and would absolutely be in play for one of those studs like Zach Martin, Aaron Donald, CJ Mosley, Odell Beckham, Anthony Barr, etc. You almost couldnt screw that pick up.

But assuming we pick in the same place we could go Teddy Bridgewater if you think Geno is a failure after 1 year or Derek Carr. If that's too unrealistic you could just keep it at Dee Ford or Dennard or Verret or Kelvin Benjamin and in our 2nd round pick nab Garrappalo, Jarvis Landry, Justin Britt, etc.

There are so many scenarios and possibilities to say this team would be upgraded with those 2 extra Alex Smith picks. And maybe even have nailed a star player in one of the two drafts cause of it.

But the dominoes would have fell completely different. Alex Smith directly affects drafting Fisher and then the rest is history, otherwise this might be a completely different team with a QB on a cheap rookie deal with tons of cap space to spend.
No way I ever take Geno at 1.1 - you guys are jumping the shark with this shit.

And me thinks Andy covered up a LOT of McNabb's weaknesses with scheme. That's why Belichick exposed McNabb in the SB, and that's why Andy traded him to a DIVISION RIVAL. He knew McNabb couldn't hurt him.

And he was right.

I don't think McNabb ever finished an NFL Season where Reid wasn't his coach.
