Country Club Plaza = Bannister Mall part 2?
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - More than 100 teens converged on the Country Club Plaza Saturday night and created a ruckus for patrons and a lot of work for Kansas City police officers.
Read more: http://www.kshb.com/dpp/news/local_n...#ixzz2tczs9I7u Stories like those about the plaza have been rolling in for the last year or longer. At one point there was a shooting and they have put a curfew in place I remember years ago bannister mall area was thriving. Hypermart and all the other surrounding stores were very popular and always busy. Crime slowly strangled the area and people chose to go elsewhere. The whole place turned into a ghost town. Obviously Cerner is building there now but the question I pose is simple There are a lot of options other than the plaza around KC so... Will the Plaza die the same way the Bannister area did? |

Let me rephrase that... I strongly suggest that they do not go at night or stay past 8pm. Unless I 'm with them or their boyfriends are. As a father of daughters I'm very protective of their safety and involved in their life. When they turn 21 and or move out they are hopefully prepared to face the world without help from Dad. I have raised 3 Daughters 24,20,and 17 and they are smarter and more mature than I'll ever be. But sometimes Parenting doesn't just stop at 18

I moved to KCMO from JOCO a few months ago - I don't think there are many cops doing ticket patrol. I saw at least 3 cars run red lights (not blow through a yellow, I mean be stopped at it and just decide to drive through) within that time.
There was a girl passed out on the sidewalk in Westport at 2am, the cops asked her if she was okay and then kept walking. Its like thunderdome out here for little stuff like that - a bit of culture shock for me, in JOCO those small things were made to be a huge deal.

Cops in Westport really don't give a shit about anything outside of public brawling, and even then I've seen them just break it up and tell people to get out of there. |

Ever drive on Metcalf? They'd need to militarize that street to ticket all the red light runners. The police couldn't do anything else.

There's too much money and power and prestige for the city associated to the Plaza. It will be law and order down there for a while I'm sure.
The thing is, it's not like the "youth" riot every weekend, it just happens occasionally. But it sounds like they are down there making people feel uncomfortable all the time, and no matter what we think about that, if people feel uncomfortable they won't bring their money down there. |

Yeah, they'll get their parking revenue and set up the occasional checkpoint (SW Trafficway). Sometimes a cop will botch an investigation or something and they'll stick him with a radar gun right where you get on SW Trafficway from I35 S where the speed limit goes from 60 to 35 before you realize you're being pulled over. That's rare, though.

If parents can drive them 20 plus minutes to loiter then their parents must not be doing too bad. School system? I grew up in independence, your parents either made you study or didn't give a shit. it all goes back to parenting. Nothing more. To try and make it more is silly. |
