Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Alex is your best option. Again his contract dictates that you can cut him next year if you want. If he doesn't work out you lose a 2nd rounder. If he does you may just be a decent team.
Guess what? We could take Joeckel, Floyd, Milliner, etc at #1 and any of them could also bust. There are no guarantees. Would that also set us back for years? We can find an Alex Smith type QB any year. If Geno flops, put in your vet backup (whoever it is at that time) and take another shot. Much rather that approach than settle for a decent guy and hope for the best.

Since that game...a span of 34 games,

Alex has about 46TDs, 13 INTs and a 97 QB rating. That was actually where the turnaround started.

You may not believe it, but he ain'tthat guy anymore.

BTW...he threw 3 TDs in the second half of that game and almost won it.[/QUOTE]

You are full of shit. He changed with Harbaugh the way castle changed with Charlie weis. We've been down this road for too many ****ing years! We are never afraid to blow a pick on a o-lineman or dlineman, why not QB?

This is full blown horse shit.

In his career he has only averaged 212 yards a game when getting 30 or more attempts a game. He had some good games when getting that many attempts, but their is alot meh to down right bad as well.

More attempts for him doesn't equal more yards for him.

He turned his numbers around because he had the #1 defense in the NFL

it took them ALL THOSE HORRIBLE ALEX SMITH YEARS to build that #1 defense through the DRAFT

every single LBer on that team was picked after Alex Smith was there.

They dont get Aldon Smith if Alex Smith doesnt player crappy football, same with Michael Crabtree (on offense), Pat Willis, Navarro Bowman. Pick a player.

They literally added two vets, stop gap guys in Carlos Rogers and Donte Whitner and everything else was built in house around the QB.

They have some of the best homegrown talent in the NFL and eventually it carried Alex Smith to better numbers/production.

youd have do the same in KC. And that requires hitting on 1st and 2nd round draft picks something we havent done in years.

Pioli: Niners-Chiefs agreement hasn’t been finalized
Posted by Mike Florio on February 27, 2013, 6:46 PM EST
Pioli AP

Former Chiefs G.M. Scott Pioli has launched a media career with multiple outlets, including NBC Sports Network. On Wednesday, he appeared on SiriusXM NFL Radio to discuss that trade that his former team has made for a quarterback.

And Pioli offered a caveat — the deal may not be completely finished.

“The one thing I have heard talking to some good sources is this thing has not been completely finalized yet,” Pioli said. “I think they are still working through some of the absolute details of what the compensation is. Because I think what happens in these trades, if you give up a pick for something or if you’re going to give up two picks, what’s been a new trend in the NFL is people generally kick picks back. Because teams don’t like to see their, even if they are going to give up a higher pick they want to get something later in the draft so they at least have a volume of picks to have more opportunities.”

In other words, if the Chiefs are giving up a second-round pick to the 49ers, they could be getting a seventh-round pick back from the 49ers.

Even if a deal is finalized, nothing is official until both teams call in the trade to the league office. And that can’t even happen until after 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 12.
