It really ****ing sucks that people feel the need to leak major plot points. No, I didn't read it, but in a lot of ways the internet has ruined movies. 35 years ago everyone would have known Vader was Luke's dad before the movie came out.

That's what I expect to read in spoiler threads.

For the record, I didn't think that spoiler was much of a spoiler. I think that a good number of people expected it, if true.

Truth. I still remember sitting in the Midland Theater 10 years old watching Empire, and hearing the audible gasps of the audience as Vader dropped that little bit of info on Left Hand Luke. Probably one of the reasons the movie still feels so iconic to me all my life. (Well that and the Ion cannon on Hoth taking out that Star Destroyer. So bad ass! But I digress....)

Surprisingly, I've managed to avoid major plot spoilers so far, even in this thread. If anything has the feel of getting too deep, I just back away. And this thread really is the only place I go snooping around for news. Piss on digging anything up on the web. Just don't know what I'll find, and I don't want to risk it.

But you're right. This is a spoiler thread, and it's all on me.

Well as I mentioned earlier, I knew that at least 2 months in advance and it didn't bother me at all.

There are two disparate ideals happening with fans within the Star Wars universe, one of which is wholly unimportant and the other extremely important.

1. Keeping the story line and plot points a "secret".
2. Making a great film.

Keeping the stories "secret" for the prequels did not affect the film making. Had novels been released prior to each or all of the prequels would not have affected the fact that the films, as far as film making goes, are complete and utter garbage.

If the prequels had been released in the 70's, the Star Wars universe would certainly exist in a different form today.

Anyway, Episode VII is either going to be a great film, a good film, an average film or a disappointment.

Whatever it may be will not be affected one bit if the public knows the plot and plot points before seeing it in theaters.

I'd actually rather know the story going in so that I can sit back, relax and watch it all unfold.

I remember watching TPM the first time in theaters and just feeling lost.

Let me summon my inner Clay Davis here....

If I'm dropping upwards of 60 bucks for me and another to go watch this show opening night, I don't want to know shit about **** (or as little as possible, realistically). I want every possible OH MY GOD moment I can have packed into the run time of the show. I might want a shoulder massage from a stormtrooper in the lobby afterwards as I take it all in, as well.

That wasn't lack of foreknowledge.

The stodgy officer saying "our first catch of the day" always makes me chuckle.

That's cool and that's how I felt about the prequels. I also kept hoping the next in the series was going to be better but it just didn't happen.

Knowing the complete story will either damper my enthusiasm or make it unbearable. I just hope it's a good film and they're not just making a movie because they can because if that's the case, I'll wait for DVD.

Spoilers won't ruin the movie. If it's great, it'll still be great whether you're watching it for the first time and wondering if what you read really happens, or if it's the 50th time. Like ESB. That movie isn't a classic because of the reveal. It's a classic because of EVERYTHING. Great story, great performances, great action and effects, great music. I honestly can't even remember the first time I watched it and found out Vader was his dad. I've watched it over and over for decades knowing exactly what was going to happen every second of the movie.

If we get THAT kind of movie from episode 7, nobody will give two shits about what was spoiled in the year before.

And if we get prequels redux...again not a shit will be given about spoilers.

And let's face it: you could have a script in front of you right now, and you still won't know how any single moment in the movie actually plays, not without the actors doing their thing, post production doing their thing, John Williams doing his thing. It's just cold words on a page. Or a screen.

Caveat being when some douche protectionist caps something a few days early and drops it online.

That's one of my favorite parts of the whole trilogy. All the Imperial officers are stodgy old brits. I imagine them having tea after they crush Rebels and torture prisoners for the day.

They do in fact drink tea.

Tarkin offered Vader some tea aboard the 1st death star, then he excused himself for "forgetting Vader's disability".

Vader then thought about the day when he would get to crush Tarkin's trachea.
