I wonder if your nine is a little optimistic. Could this team conceivably win fewer than five games next year? I can certainly see them going winless in conference.
Well they'll unquestionably be less talented than they were last year.

And it's not like they were losing squeakers for most of the year - they weren't even competitive for the most part. What, 8 of the 23 losses were even competitive games?

15+ losses that were just no-doubt ass-kickings. You don't figure a less talented team is going to see fewer of those.

5 wins is unlikely because that's just goddamn near impossible to be that bad in a sport like college basketball where one guy can get white-hot and drag you to a W (Namon Wright vs. a depleted and ice cold Florida team, for example).

But yeah, there's every possibility that the last few games of the season are another fight to secure double digits.

Check again.

Already named Martinez.

With Marco having accrued 40 days service time and still needing to figure out a 3rd pitch of some sort, it makes all the sense in the world to send him down. Get him back under the limit to earn the Cards another year with him.

And they really want to see Martinez succeed. I think the organization loves how he responded to Oscar's death and they're pulling hard for him.

Once Jaime went down, Martinez was a foregone conclusion. I don't think Marco was ever truly being considered.

Williams is the kind of guy that can drag you to 2 or 3 more wins than you deserved and his departure will mean more. Another 9 win season after mass-departures means he's done.

Nah, this doesn't feel bad at all. This feels like the beginning of the end.
Very valid points.

We scored 36 against Kentucky.

Thirty. Six. I completely forgot about that.

What a truly awful team.

That's fine by me, but Marco's on his way towards having five pitches, not just three. Four-seamer, sinker, change, cutter, and a curve.

I agree that Marco has awfully nice upside - I just don't mind him putting that all together in the minors.

Marco's arsenal is the sort that should age extremely well. If you can get him polished up, that's a #2 starter for the next decade.

If we could figure out a way to get ourselves another year of team control (i.e. keeping him down for about 7 weeks) while simultaneously banking innings like we did with Wacha in 13 would be a huge benefit for the ballclub.

I think the biggest problem is the state of Missouri wasn't cranking out high school prep talent in basketball the past 4 years. We've noticed in the MVC and its the same in the SEC/Big 12/Big Ten recruits as well.

I wish Duncan and Hamas were calling the shots instead of the Geritol crowd. I don't mean that as an insult I seriously think you guys would do better, I would at least feel more comfortable about it.

btw are these same Norm rah rah frickers going to choose the next football coach when Pinkel retires? please tell me someone else handles that department.

Bradley Beal, Ben McLemore, Otto Porter?

Jayson Tatum and Michael Porter may be #1 overall picks in the NBA draft (next two recruiting classes).

Fortunately the Norm backers also foisted Stull and Widenhoffer on us. After that abortion, most of them simply checked out of football altogether.

I don't know who will ultimately run the show there, but they do appear to be distinctly different groups of people.

(Though seriously, is there any question that they brought back Odom at the risk of losing Kuligowski with every intention of making him the HC when Gary goes?)

After the Beal, Porter, Young class (which is the senior class this year) the next 3 are pretty bad. No real depth or stars across the state. It's one of the big reasons all of the state schools plus a few of the neighboring schools have been down. It's cranking back up starting with this class of 15 and of course the two mega studs coming up.

That's not a suitable excuse for Missouri, though. For every Jimmy Whitt that you lose, that's a Cullen Van Leer that doesn't play in the Valley, but even if Mizzou doesn't recruit the state, they have (before exodus) five 4* players on their team:

J3
Clark
Gant
Wright
Gill-Caesar

And BJ Young (alden wouldn't let Anderson recruit him at Mizzou) and Kendrick Nunn and Malcolm Hill (suburban St. Louis on the Illinois side) and OG Announby and Jimmy Whitt and Juwan Morgan and Jordan Barnett and Larry Austin Jr and Cam Biedschied (Kim kicked him for testing positive for pot. Once.)

In addition to Tatum and Porter, there are very good recruits like Tyler Cook and Xavier Sneed coming down the pipe. Top 50 type talents.

But TrueSon secured Cullen VanLeer, so all is well!
