Hope Luke gets back to what he was....this bp will be lights out. It def remains possible they could trade Holland or ride out the pen another year

I can't quite believe they gave Hochevar a multi-year deal for that type of money. $5 million per? Wow.
So, unless Moore really plans to spend a combined$23 million on the back end of his pen, to me this signifies they're planning to trade at least one of Davis or Holland. You can't spend over 1/4 of your budget on 4 guys who are going to throw 240 innings. Can you?

I know it hasn't been mentioned by anyone in the media as of late, but I really think we're setting up for a trade here. With Hoch getting a new deal, it gives us some wiggle room with Holland/Davis (whichever one we decide to trade). I've felt all offseason that if they couldn't get Hunter or Melky, they'd make a move via trade...and I still feel that way. There are a few guys out there that could help out tremendously, it's just a matter of asking price. On the same token, though...a guy like Greg Holland is one hell of a bargaining chip at this point.

There'd have to be more to the deal, obviously, than just one player from each side. I'm sure it'd include a prospect or 2 from each side.

I would point out that if Hoch repeated 2013 (unlikely but IF), then he's surely worth $5M. Last year we paid HDh $12M to produce the same stat line as KERSHAW who made $30m. Innings are innings. Also worth noting our pen outside HDH was atrocious- 5.60 era or something. Frasor helps, Crow leaving helps. If we do keep HDH together our 5-man pen now is insane |

I'm just concerned the Royals are backed into a corner with the bullpen situation now.
They're unlikely to get a MLB-ready player who really makes that deal worth it (unless Washington is really anxious to improve the back end of its pen). And prospects don't help the team in 2015. Unless Moore plans to once again try either Hochevar or Davis (which is a terrifying prospect) in the rotation, I think ONE of the bullpen pieces has to be moved sometime soon.

I guess all off-season ball talk is here.
Apparently the Josh Donaldson trade to the Jays was initiated from a heated arguement between Josh and Beane. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/20...s&utm_tags%20= |

Marlon Byrd is owed $6 million this year and has a vesting $6 million for 2016. He makes a ton of sense

Is there a trade market for a win-now bullpen guy plus prospects? Seems like an odd package.

so we just resigned Hochevar for 2 years and $10M
Look, I get it. He is a great bullpen arm. But with Frasor as well? WTF? We almost have to trade Holland now? Otherwise I guess every game has turned into a 5 inning game for us. Hoch 6 Herrera 7 Davis 8 Holland 9 ... is that even real? Holland should be floated around at this point. |

Have you ever played fantasy sports with the guy who only wants to trade for your first-round picks (who are performing for you), while offering you guys selected in the 3rd round or lower (who are performing but not any better than the guys you'd give up)? That's what it apparently is like trying to swing a trade with Reuben Amaro.
