Ah, yeah. Race to Witch Mountain and The Gameplan, I think. Good point but I've actually never seen those.
Snitch was really a drama flick starring the Rock as a big ****ing pussy. I guess it's cool that he's trying to flex his acting muscles, but this one just didnt hit the spot. When the Rock's on screen, I expect him to dish out some serious hurt to some rudy poo, candy ass mother****ers. Instead I got Mr Rogers-lite in a 6'5" 250 pound tank. |

I watched Side Effects with Jude Law. I thought it was pretty good. Better than most of these pedestrian type mysteries they put out. But there was some sort of logical flaws in what the characters did. It's worth a rent I think, though.

I caught Cloud Atlas over the weekend and it was boring. Billy Elliot was on one of my movie channels and it's still a top notch film IMO. |

I've started Cloud Atlas 3 times now, just can't get it watched. So convoluted and boring.

Watched one of the best documentaries EVER last night called "Searching for Sugar Man", its about a 60's folk singer named Sixto Rodriguez from detroit who cut two albums with some big name producers who really believed in him but that ultimately went absolutely nowhere in the US.
But lo and behold, he finds out 40 years later that he was literally bigger than Elvis and the Beatles in south africa, something in his music really struck a chord with the youth of that era, largely due to the oppressive apartheid regime at the time. Without sounding cliche, this doc takes you on his truly remarkable journey from aspiring star, to construction worker, to full blown phenomenon in SA... i cannot lie, i shed some tears of joy... if you only watch one documentary this year, make it THIS ONE. |

I saw Fruitvale Station on Sunday. I thought it was really good. Michael Jordans kid is a really good actor and this movie could launch his career.

Seriously though, Searching for Sugar Man is just a true inspiration for me and it couldnt have happened to a better guy, he's sooo humble, without a trace of bitterness that he was rejected by America in the 60's-70's... "hey, its the music business, nothings guaranteed".
Since the release of the movie he's actually made millions, but gives most away to family and friends who supported him when he was just starting out or after he'd given up and went into construction... still lives in the rundown looking place with a wood burning stove in inner detroit that he's lived in for the last 40+ years. This guy is a true artiste, listen to him give Bob Dylan a run for his money... ed* he doesnt live in a "dump", but its definitely an older building in the heart of the city. Crazy, Stupid, Love is just a great movie. Really funny. Steve Carell was awesome, and so was Ryan Gosling.
