So, I didn't see a thread started, and all the others are pretty maxed out to the point where a fresh thread would be needed soon either way.

Time to share the run up to ST & and another memorable year in the making!

Well, Beachy is younger, I'll give you that, but his numbers hasn't supported his talent level, even though he also has been injured. Medlen just has more data in terms of pitching in the MLB level.

I'd be OK with either one really. It's a low risk, high reward type of players is how I see it, and those are the guys that the R's need to take either. The way I see it, you can never have enough starting pitching.

We might want to sign pitchers who can pitch next season also.

Beachy definitely has better stuff... but he has a real problem staying healthy. Medlen is interesting. In both 2012 and 2013 he started out average, then in the 2nd half pitched out of his mind. Both years. You'd be shocked if you saw his splits. I think the Braves were pretty much forced to start him game 1 in the playoffs both years, even though I think they lost both games.

What's the inside scoop on Dave Eiland? Does he get a lot of credit in the league for his pitching staffs? Has he considered moving up and trying the head job? Just curious if there is any talk about him amongst you dudes that study all this. Thanks

This includes his stats as a starter and a reliever over the years, but Medlen is 19-6 with a 2.14 ERA and 8.6 K/9 after the All Star Break. Go figure that one.

As a starter in 2012 and 2013: after August 1 he was 16-2 with a 1.43 ERA, 22 BB, 144 K, 8.6 K/9.

Who knows if he can recapture that again though.

Oh no doubt about that, but you also would want to look at the future as well. Guthrie is going to be 36/37 in 2016, and he'll be making just $1 million, based on a mutual option per this link.

http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/kansas-ci...eremy-guthrie/

However, I think that's a error, as I'm thinking $11 million seems more reasonable, since a buy-out is only 3.2 million.

Either way, you also have to take into consideration that injuries are going to happen.
