Justice League on track to lose Warner Bros. 'between 50 and 100 million.

Justice League on track to lose Warner Bros. 'between 50 and 100 million

Justice League’s opening weekend at the box office should have called for a celebration.

Considering Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman all opened to over $100 million (the former taking $160 million), you would expect the Avengers-style blockbuster to make at least that much.

However, despite being a gigantic superhero event — Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, and the Flash finally teaming up to defeat evil — cinema-goers just weren’t as excited as Warner Bros. predicted.

Tracking for a $110 to $120 million opening weekend, Justice League took $96 million at the US box office, making just over $280 million worldwide. Unfortunately, despite still being a huge number, the studio is reportedly on track to lose $50 to $100 million once the movie has played out of cinemas.

on a side note, the Hulk roller coaster at Universal studios in Orlando is one of my favorite coasters in the world.

All because Marvel Comics was facing bankruptcy in the 90's

I want to see the DCEU succeed, and I think a lot of people just want to see it fail. Some of this online bluster is based out of that, if you're really being honest.

That said, I don't believe this movie will lose a bunch of money, but you also have to concede that this film isn't slaying it at the box office either. This is the first movie in modern history to feature Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc. The greatest superheroes of our time... there's no way this movie should make less than a billion dollars. It should fly past that. You'll never convince me when they set out to create the DCEU, they didn't expect it to be a monster box office hit like the Marvel movies.

Actually, this is the second movie to feature Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

Regardless, those expectations are utterly ridiculous.

Again, movies aren’t sports.

A billion+ for Justice League is certainly expected.

Had BvS and Suicide Squad been halfway decent this movie would have shit on the $ billion mark.

I just wish WB would just have faith in their directors.

Suicide Squad, Batman vs Superman and Justice League have been interfered with by execs and marketing people. I don't understand why you would hire directors with a clear vision like David Ayer and Zac Snyder if you are just going to **** them over with Post production and editing demands.

If you want yes men pretty sure Colin Trevorrow or Bret Ratner or someone similar would be better choices.

Another issue I have had with Batman vs Superman and Justice League is that in both cases they were clearly 2 films merged into 1. As a result both films also felt rushed. Not sure why Hollywood has gone away from the 2 part Model which worked with Harry Potter, Twilight and Hunger games. In stead you force the film to be edited down to 2 hours.

As I understand it they spent close to $100 million on reshoots and CGI after adding a director.

Typically large budget moves spend anywhere from 50-100% of their budgets on advertising.

So they spent around $300m+ before likely a minimum of $100m in advertising?

Thats almost half a billion in cost. I'm sure $1B was the goal...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I always see this formula but it is hard to judge because studios are usually reluctant to share exactly how much they spend on marketing.

Also people neglect to acknowledge these films rarely lose money as stated in the OP because they always forget DVD sales/ Sound Track sales/ TV sales/ Subscription stream sales.

I just dont get the negativity toward a movie. Dont go see it. You saw one and didn't like it, dont go to another.

I think your right, some see it as sports teams. DC v Marvel. Has this tribalism in our society infiltrated our movies to the point we actively root for a movie to fail because its the other sides movie?

I mainly go to movies to be entertained. How much money it made or didn't is irrelevant to how much I enjoy a movie.

When I was a kid I don't remember ever caring about Box office figures, maybe I was naive and maybe it is down to the internet and availability of the numbers.

I actually enjoyed this movie although I accept that people who want to tear it to shreds will have a field day doing so, given it has some obvious floors.

Both Avengers flicks crossed the $ billion mark. If JL doesn't then it'll be a disappointment for sure.

JL is on pace to make less than Thor WW.

It's a shitshow no matter how you try to sell it.

Its not a matter of DC vs Marvel. You're allowed to compare things that make the same type of content and follow the same formula.
