How old is your car?

Cars have become extremely reliable over the past 20 years. In 1996 the avg car in the road was 3 years old. In 2006 it was 10 and now it's 12.

How old is yours?

I had a '68. It was the coupe though, not the fastback. It was that yellow tan that was - for some reason - popular in the late '60s. It also had a black vinyl top and a bumblebee stripe around the tail, so it was jazzed up a little. It had the 273 V8. It was a pretty nice driving car though I was having problems with the carb/choke.

I stupidly traded it for a '72 Chevelle that turned out to be a massive pile of crap. The guy I traded it to drove it for at least the next 20 years and might still have it for all I know.

Neat. I made this observation and the OP confirms it. Seems like cars over the past 20 years are aging well.

2010 Mazda CX-7 Grand Touring
2001 Firebird Trans Am
2000 Nissan Sentra SE

The Mazda is the family wagon, the Pontiac is my toy car/money pit, and the Nissan is quite possibly the best money i've ever spent.

My 17 year old Nissan only has 65,000 Miles on it and it's changed my perception of what's important in a car.

For Example: To get to and from work every week in the Mazda it costs me about $60 a week in gas. The Nissan? $30.

I recently did an oil change on my Nissan. It takes less than 3 quarts of oil. Yes, you read that right. I couldn't believe it either. The oil change cost me less than $17 w/ filter. The Nissan has these little 14" wheels on it. I can buy 4-tires for the Nissan for the cost of one high quality tire for the Mazda or Pontiac.

I paid $1,500 for this little Nissan. The elderly woman that owned it just wanted to get rid of it. All it needed was a new alternator and battery. It's immaculate. Thing is damn near like new and the cost to maintain is so significantly cheaper than the other two cars that it's become my go-to ride.

Like i told my nephew the other day (he's getting ready to buy his first car), driving my firebird feels great. Doesn't feel like any other car.

But paying $17 for an oil change feels even better.

As you get older.....you get past the "having to look cool" part of driving to and from work. Right around the time my Dad retired....he was driving this beauty back and forth to work. He got that shit for $500.

That's not the exact one.

But he paid $500 for the thing. And the funny part was....was that before he moved to Wyoming....the state of California gave him $1000 to trash it.

Had an electrical short somewhere that would leaving me playing roulette each time I went to start it / try to start it. Still loved it. Always loved that body style by GM; Grand Nationals etc. Always liked the Monte Carlo SS of that time frame. My 442 was sweet; black, t-tops. Just what a 16 year old kid needs.

When I see a Monte SS now off on someone's property while driving, I'll say to my wife "look at that! that's bad ass!", and she looks at me like I'm crazy.
lol
That one in my pic goes for about $109,000. I wouldn't let my 16 year get within 10 feet of that car

I scored my '85 442 in 1994. Still wish I would've had a way to keep it all these years. It was, no shit, in perfect condition. I used to come out from work and on several occasions there would be a note on my windshield, asking if I was interested in selling it.
It also got stolen 3 times. lol. First time, recovered about 2 miles from my work, they stole the radio. the other two times, stolen from my driveway. AT that point, I had it sitting (because I went off the the Navy and only got home once or twice a year, so my dad kept it taken care of), so I had the battery out. Both occasions, the thieves got into the car, and thought they would coast it down the street then start it (as to no wake anyone in the house). Little did they know, there was no battery in it.

I think after those 2 times, my dad put it in in our neighbors garage until he could sell it.

In my life I've owned a '65 Austin Healy 3000 and a '78 Silver Anniversary Corvette, both were daily drivers. I have to say I appreciate a more modern car for everyday use, but they were fun.

Dane McSplooge will be in shortly to tell us how dumb we are for driving cars more than 1 year old that are under $50,000.
