Jags have 76 million in cap space because all their offensive weapons are on rookie contracts lol
They will over pay for every defensive player that looked like he knew how to play football in 2015. I fully expect Jaye Howard to get his "top 5" money in JAX. |

FA contracts are going to be pretty nutty for the top of the scale this year. Smith and Howard fall squarely in that category for their respective positions. Hell, Johnson and Jenkins might as well. It's why we may have to look at guys like Lane or Robinson - players that stay under the radar due to injury/role.

Yep you're going to see a guy like Jay Howard skew the landscape.
He's like that fake lineman on the HBO show Ballers but in real life. Where they talk about slotting him around JJ Watt/Gerald McCoy money It's going to be silly absurd. It may not be that high but it's going to be close to 12/13/14 |

You have to underpay about 1/2 your roster. You can overpay 1/4 and pay market for the other 1/4. That underpaid half comes primarily through the draft but you need some savvy FA pickups in there as well. To this point Dorsey's shown to have a very good eye for that. Here's hoping he keeps that touch over the coming years.

He put it on tape that he can be a dominant nose guard and a plus end.
If he makes it to unrestricted FA, there won't be a shortage of teams competitions for his services. He's very comparable to guys that are getting 10/yr now. |

If that's the case, KC better choose between Howard and Poe right now. Can't keep both at that rate.

Let's also not forget that Bailey's money goes up fairly substantially at the back of that deal. He's sporting an $8 million cap hit in 2018 and if you bring Howard and Poe back as well, those deals will also likely be structured in a way that you're going to be nearly $40 million into your 3 down lineman. That does not strike me as a championship formula.

I don't understand why so many people around here think he's average.

Over/Under on Pro Bowl appearances. Starter or alternate is fine. I don't think he's 'average' but I think he's about to be overpaid. There's too much money in the market and the salary floor says that teams have to spend. Howard's probably going to be the best interior defender on the market and he's relatively young. He's going to get paid a shocking amount of money, IMO. The reaction will be similar to when Hudson got his deal - "Man, I like Howard, but at that number the {X team} can have him." We're trying to build a balanced ballclub and you can't do that if you overpay for 5-techniques. He's not a difference maker and he damn sure isn't a better NT than Poe as you have suggested. Literally everything that Howard can do, Poe can do better. He's stronger, he's quicker and he's more agile. I think some are underrating Howard but I think you've been overrating him for quite some time now.
