Preaseason Unit Discussions: Offensive Line

Per the discussions earlier this week, I wanted to offer an experimental concept. During the preseason, let's discuss each of the units on the Chiefs in a particular thread.

Post your thoughts during the games or between games about individual performances.

This thread is for offensive linemen. How they doin'?

Pro Football Focus rated Mathis as the best guard in the NFL for the 2011, 2012, and 2013 season. In 2014 he was rated as the second best guard in the league despite missing seven games due to injury.

And from Fulton and LDT on the right side...

Which would be outstanding, but I don't think it will work out that way.

No, Stephenson will NOT start at LT (even though he played well). LDT will NOT start at RG. And you can bet your ****ing asses that Fanaika isn't going to start shit or even be on the goddamned team when Week 1 hits. And I hope to god that Kush is our starter at C.

If you have a ****ing brain, it's difficult to get too worked up about this OL performance tonight.
Good post and I agree.

I think Morse did okay. Problem is, at center, we need more than Okay because RG was a f'in shit storm. Perhaps if Morse has a REAL RG next to him, he will be better.

The biggest concern to me was RG, then RT. Fisher will be fine at LT, and Stephenson will shift to RT.

I agree Reid was testing things, and that's what preseason is for. Lets see what the preseason week 3 OL looks like because that is the most likely to start week 1. LDT needs more time. Morse just played a REALLY good DL. Fanaika sucks and is gone.

Fisher / Grubbs / Morse / Fulton\Mathis / Stevenson.

The line is serviceable, but let's spend money on Mathis. Dumb.

And the butthurt around here is getting epic. This season is going to be awesome.

Cant.

Wait.

I had some errands to run after work yesterday, so I didn't get home to watch this game last night.

I did read some if the early responses in this thread when I got home, so I was expecting to see an absolute train wreck from LDT when I watched this game this morning.

I didn't go through it as closely as I did the first game (I'll probably do that tomorrow morning).

What I saw, however, wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting.
LDT did get schooled by Brandon Mebane, one of the best interior D-Lineman in the game, and did show he isn't ready.

He looked absolutely lost on the screen pass tackle he made.

He did, however, still show the potential and promise that he has through much of his night.

Part of the problem I saw is that Morse showed his inexperience is making line adjustments pre-snap.

Morse is more talented than Kush, but he isn't ready to take over the responsibility at center playing alongside an an inexperienced right guard.

Right now, given talent and experience, the best combination to start would be Kush and Fulton.

Milkman, I think if they're gonna go with morse at c, the Mathis potential signing makes sense. Grubbs and mathis side of him, would be a positive for the kid to grow.

LDT had fanaika to his right as well, not a good combination
