Healthy food substitutes

I'm hoping this thread can help those who are trying to better themselves. Please share some healthy food substitutions if you have any. Thank you.

1. Replace mayo and sour cream with plain Greek yogurt. Use Greek yogurt with your tuna, egg salads and chicken salads.

2. Use cauliflower instead of potatoes when wanting mashed potatoes. Steam the cauliflower and blend with a pinch of salt and pepper. Be careful with the butter. Also cauliflower makes a great pizza crust.

3. Try to use jelly instead of syrup and butter when eating pancakes.

4. Use oatmeal as binder instead of breadcrumbs when making meatloaf, hamburgers, meat balls etc etc.

5. Use unsweetened applesauce for a GREAT substitute for butter. Don't knock it until you've tried it. It has the exact same consistency and texture as butter.

Hmm. I'll have to try that. I've just made spaghetti with it, and the other flavors really trick you in regards to the pasta actually being squash. Totally going to make some that way. I like Parm cheese. I like butter. I like pepper. That seems nice.

It's good. Try some butter with "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter." I can barely tell the difference. It takes getting used to if you use a tomato sauce on it though. But you can get used to it over pasta.

It's good this way too: I made this recipe once.

I'm same with coconut and raw onion. The flavor is fine, the texture is awful.

Originally, I made those cupcakes for the kids but they hated the texture of the coconut. They licked the birds aka the frosting. The adults wound up devouring them though.

Honestly, though, how can you cook much of anything without onions? They are in nearly every recipe for flavor. Do you strain them out?

Vegetables are good for you. Eating a variety of them, actually of other foods too, contributes to getting the nutrition we need as they all have different nutrients and different concentrations of nutrients. You'll have less health problems eating enough veggies.

For me, the onion issue is only raw onion. Cooked is fine.

Gross. What do you think you're accomplishing by substituting a natural ingredient with something you can leave on the counter for a couple years without it spoiling?

Yeah, I get texture. It's something that will ruin anything If it's unagreeable.

I don't leave it on the counter. I leave it in the fridge. Nor does it sit for years. It is sweet cream buttermilk and only five ingredients. Xanthan gum is just a thickener that I use in other dishes and is safe. It does have soy in it though. That's about the worst thing in it but that's what most salad dressings use too. If someone is trying to cut fat, lessen calories to lose weight or to keep it down it's okay if used in moderation. That's why I use butter with it.
