Welker concussed again

Guess they'll have to burn us with some other WR.

Sure T F DO. Are you ACTUALLY saying that a shoulder to shoulder hit is illegal??? Especially one where the WR caused the awkward angle by dipping into the hit while making the catch. Because that's exactly what happened. Deal is since there is basically no pass defense allowed in the NFL these days, it's gonna be called every time.

I hope Welker gets hit in the head again every time that he plays. That's what he deserves for diving at the legs of defenders in order to help Peyton Manning get to the playoffs.

That link does not even claim it was shoulder to shoulder.

I think you may be the only person on earth that thinks that the hit was shoulder to shoulder.

It has already been clearly demonstrated a number of times in the past that it is the hitter's responsibility to control the collision.

Article 9
It is a foul if a player initiates unnecessary contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture.

(a)Players in a defenseless posture are:
OFFICIAL NFL PLAYING RULES 73
(1)A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass;
(2)A receiver attempting to catch a pass; or who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a runner. If the receiver/runner is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player;
(3) A runner already in the grasp of a tackler and whose forward progress has been stopped;
(4)A kickoff or punt returner attempting to field a kick in the air;
(5)A player on the ground at the end of a play;
(6)A kicker/punter during the kick or during the return;
(7)A quarterback at any time after a change of possession, and
(8)A player who receives a “blindside” block when the blocker is moving toward his own endline and approaches the opponent from behind or from the side.

(b)Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is:
(1)Forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him; and
(2)Lowering the head and making forcible contact with the top/crown or forehead/”hairline” parts of the helmet against any part of the defenseless player’s body.

Then make it a penalty and fine for any offensive player to lower their head??

I get tired of defensive players going for legit tackles, just to have a QB/WR lower their head for contact and draw a flag. It is 100% on the offensive player. Those plays/penalties should be review-able.

If you have time to lower your frame, you are not defenseless.

Did you watch the video? There was a quarter, maybe half a second between catch and hit. Welker was a perfect example of a defenseless receiver.

Also, Swearinger hit him how he intended to, as far as I can tell. There was no attempt to wrap up, just leading with his shoulder. If Welker had not lowered his head, Swearinger maybe would have made contact with his neck (still a personal foul) rather than the side of his head.

Furthermore, Swearinger does not protest that he meant to hit his body, or that Welker ducked. His immediate reaction is to tell the ref that he led with his shoulder. I think the hit went exactly as Swearinger intended it to, he just thought that leading with his shoulder was legal.
