You're clearly not from Japan, because they find us fascinating based on who I see walking around.

It's a reasonable point. The city was founded in 1858. We're probably one of the newest 1+ million metropolitan areas in the world, now that I think about it. On volume of history, we're not going to compete with a lot of other places in the U.S., and the eastern hemisphere is completely in another league.

That said, there's some cool stuff. There's great architecture and silver baron mansions if you go to the right neighborhoods, and the city's history as essentially a miner's jumpoff point is interesting. It's just not really obvious as something to look for. And in the current world, there's all sorts of vacation-y stuff to do. The mountains and outdoors are obviously the main things, but we've got good museums and culture and stuff.

If you're a Japanese architecture and willing to spend the $$$ sure. Denver has insane homes.

Just went to Savannah last weekend. Aside from the weather being stupid cold, we had a great time. Got wasted on River Street, which was nice cuz we stayed at River Street Inn. Did a horse drawn carriage tour, then that night took a bicycle taxi to a haunted pub crawl, and then got wasted on River Street again!!

The wife and I are planning on going to Atlanta in early May for a Cards/Braves series. She's a Braves fan and wants to see the new ballpark.

I've been to Atlanta a lot and have worked there extensively in my former occupation. Wink wink It was a conduit point. Atlanta is a ****ing great city. But as any city be careful.

The new ballpark is way north of the city. Outside of going to and from the airport, we won't be in the city itself.

It's 5 minutes from my house. I wouldn't call it way outside the city.

In ATL just stay north of I-20 and it's pretty tame. South of that line (especially west part of the city) you can enter the Twilight Zone.

I meant the downtown area. The last time we went to a game at Turner we stayed downtown.

As far as getting to area of the new ballpark from the airport, would it be best to take 85 to 75 and go straight through downtown, or take 285?

Skip Georgia. Go to Virginia instead.

Virginia is beautiful—much more so than Atlanta. Although both have some colonial/Federalist era homes with lots of charm.

I worked in Atlanta last Wed to Sat. I hate when they send me there to work though. For pleasure, it's not so bad. Has some very nice restaurants.

lovely contribution to the thread and very complimentary of Atlanta. You seem nice on here.

Well, this could make traveling around Atlanta a little unpleasant for the next few weeks......

Right in the heart of the city. Ouch.
