I don't think that is overextending their payroll and yet provides some nominal cash flow to improve their roster. I don't know why that seems like an irrational desire or not feasible from an organizational standpoint of remaining profitable and increasing the value of the franchise.

We are so far removed from the end of our contract, that an extension now is probably not a good idea, unless we were really sure the bubble was going to bust. If FSKC contacted the Royals to talk about the deal right now, they should be suspicious. Extension talks with Fox would make more sense in 2018 or so.

I don't expect Glass to operate at a long-term loss, but 100 or so doesn't sound like a big ask. (edit2: operating loss. I don't count capital gains, at all) edit: and on the upside, if ticket and apparel sales go better than expected and we end up on pace for 2.4MM+ tickets instead of the 2.2MM we're thinking, then thats enough to swing a decent deadline deal if needed, too.

It would seem to set his value in the $5-7 million range. If Cuddyer, who is coming off superior years and has more versatility/can actually play a position, can get $10 million/year, I can't imagine Butler is in quite that same territory.

I dunno. Butler is 6 years younger and Cuddyer only played 49 games last year. His effectiveness in the OF is something I'd doubt. And his coors #s seriously inflated his production.
I'd like to see Butler in Coors for a year. |

This. I have assumed that Butler was going to get $6-8MM/YR. I can potentially see the Royals doing a 2/$14MM deal

@jflanagankc: Interesting and logical: A source told http://MLB.com that Billy Butler has been offered 3-year, $30 million deal, likely by Orioles
