Need opinions on this vehicle

2000 Ford Explorer XLT V6 178K miles
ABS light doesn't go out
may need converter but not certain

Brakes are good
has a little rust on the rear fender but nothing really bad and the paint has oxidation

Muffler recently replaced. Still waiting for answers regarding if the engine or tranny have ever been overhauled.

This is mostly highway miles to Kentucky and back.

They are asking 1500

It's actually the heater circuit on that o2 sensor.

If the actual sensor was bad you would get terrible gas mileage

When has this idiot ever been right about anything - ever? It's not called the CoMo effect for nothing.

He's not right here either. It's a good vehicle that's perhaps a little too heavy for the light truck frame it was built on so things like the ball joints and the tie-rod ends have to be replaced a little more often than they would on something like a Tahoe, which was built on a full-sized truck frame.

You're not going to beat the value on a 4WD either, if that's something you really want. It will get fairly lousy gas mileage, though. Ours was getting in the high teens when all was said and done.
I think it's the torsion bar suspension that eats those ball joints.

Blazers were the same way

It may actually be the muffler. If it's a dual inlet they are pretty noisy and rust out.

I put one on two Weeks ago for 125. Probably be twice that there though lol

Edit: whoops just saw they had a new muffler, might just be a bad weld, and those things always find loud to me

Sadly, I was absent from the board for the Dee Ford draft pick (took a year off after Indy) but my search for the draft thread turned up this old sucker.

Guru, did you end up buying this thing? If so, how'd it work out for ya?

But did it make it a year? You don't get forever for $1,500...

There we go...

February of '15. Hey, that's 24 months of car for $1,500. That's a damn bargain right there. And you could probably get at least few hundred back as a charity write-off, if not a little more if you sent it for salvage.

Used cars are so expensive right now. You can't get shit for under $5000 anymore, it seems. My first car (in 1980) was a six year old Gran Torino with 33,000 miles for $650. That's around $2800 in today's dollars. You can't find anything with fewer than 100K miles for that (though it could be argued a mid-'70s Ford with 33k miles is comparable to a newer car with higher miles).

My in-laws just traded their 2006 Accord EX with 215k miles for $2125. I wish I knew. I would have given them $3000 and could have easily sold it here for $4-5,000. Most of the miles were highway miles from their frequent trips around the US.

Well that's if there weren't any significant repairs along the way, which I believe there was...I mean hell it was an Exploder.

Shit, if you think car market is bad, look at the used truck market. It's ridiculous.
