Alex Smith is a damn good QB

Just look at some of the numbers around the league today. We're lucky to have him as our QB.

I don't know about 'rather', but I certainly don't care if they go 10-6 and lose in the first round of the playoffs versus going 5-11.

We all know the arguments for/against it, but I'd definitely take growing pains with a young/aggressive/(seemingly) high potential guy over years and years of "just good enough to make the playoffs, and let's see what happens."

In line with temper11's comment about being surprised someone in KC doesn't like small ball, it's what the Chiefs have been feeding people for years and years and people eat it up. A chance to make the playoffs every few years, and if they do something in the next couple, people will act like the strategy was the right one for all these years.

If Smith and this regime breaks that mold, that's great... even if I'm lumped in as a hater or whatever, being wrong about football on the internet isn't really a concern, and hey, some people would be right for the first time in like 3 decades, so kudos to them.

I hope we don't have to find out, but its something that at best is a I don't know, because fortunately, we haven't had to figure that out.
Of course we don't, and there are so many damn variables, it's tough to figure it out until it happens. Pretty sure we're going to find, but it might be a couple months.

I was thinking that his comment there was completely off based. Its been good football talk. something that rarely happens here, and I get what you are saying.

That one instance where your defense doesn't stand up, can your offense carry the load, and its valid.

Where I think we disagree a little bit is the inclination that this is the same ol chiefs. The difference being that both John Dorsey, and Andy Reid have been parts of building two championship caliber organizations. Not one hit wonder teams like the Buccaneers who won once, and have yet to be heard from again, but the Packers have been relevant year in and year out since 95, the Eagles were year in year out for 14 years, and what it appears is that with weeding out some of the old, Albert, Flowers, and building more with youth, Fisher, knile, Kelce, Fulton, Gaines, just to name a few that they are trying to build that same kind of thing here.

Just an observation, now if that is considered to be the same ol same ol, I don't really sense that with the HERM, or the Haley admins, but I can see that here. Especially with the amount of picks they have coming next year.

Has that really been the case before? And im genuinely asking. Not being snarky.

I won't argue the point of developing a QB; it's the right thing to do. But I will say that I don't understand how the regular season is so easily dismissed by you. You have to do well in the regular season to win or lose in the playoffs, so to pass off the regular season like we are some team that regularly competes and loses in the playoffs seems odd to me.

Not to mention, if we make the playoffs this year, that would be the first time we've gone to consecutive playoffs since when? To make the playoffs with our division, in the AFC, with a division champ's schedule, against the NFC West and the AFC East would be quite a feat.

2008 brought in a great amount of talent and things were looking up, then Cassel happened. This fan base hasn't been the same since.

Its a fair point. Think about this for a moment.

The KC defense has played what, the 2nd fewest snaps in the league? And despite that fact, Justin Houston still has 12 sacks in 8 games and has a shot to break the sack record.

Our guys are getting after offenses, plain and simple. We don't allow the big play on 3rd down that allows them to stay on the field. (we sometimes let Andy do that on 4th down, by letting too many men get on the field and allow the 1st though.....)

Who knows how many sacks Houston could have right now if our offense wasn't chewing up the better parts of several quarters this season.

I know some of it's my own fault as to why I'm lumped in as a 'hater', but damn, it really was just an honest question about Kaepernick that started all of it, with no intention of baiting or picking a side.

Anyway, I see why people say it's different... and it's not like every regime has been exactly the same, and for a while it was one extreme to the other and back (Marty/Gunther, Vermeil, Herm, Haley).... but, the one big similarity is the idea of getting back to mediocrity (ok, "being competitive") ASAP versus spending the time to build a winner.

And like I've said all along with this regime, the resumes and history look good, etc; and maybe THIS regime was right about getting a retread THIS time and they really know what they're doing THIS time, etc. The resumes are different this time, outside of the Patriots thing, the roster turnover isn't that unique... but, to that point, even if this doesn't work out soon, I'd like these guys to stick around as long as something like 2012 doesn't happen, because the franchise could really use some stability.

It's all just wait and see.... and I'm not one to demand championships or anything, but obviously I'm not interested in winning a bunch of regular season games any longer. It's not different until, well, something different happens.

2008 brought us Glenn Dorsey, Branden Albert, Brandon Flowers, Jamaal Charles, and Brandon Carr. It was a spectacular draft. Along came Pioli...
