@GoodmanESPN: Kansas needs a pure point guard who can run team, push tempo, get into paint and also make shots. Devonte Graham can do all of the above.

@evandaniels
Sources around the Devonte Graham recruitment say a decision is coming soon. Possibly by end of day tomorrow.

I've been hearing it's no coincidence with everything that happened today the choice is KU.

Heard on the radio it's down to KU and NCState IIRC.

Obviously with what went down today, KU is prob the frontrunner

imo we should have gone with Mason from the beginning of the year. Hopefully he would have developed faster with the additional playing time and been a much better guy for us. Even frankamp was getting more effective by the end of the year simply because he knew his limitations and didn't try to do too much.

Tharpe looked asleep at the wheel way too often.

I don't hate Tharpe and wish him all the best, but KU can move on pretty easily if they get Graham.

What were you guys expecting from a 93rd rated recruit outta HS? I dont quite get it. The problem is we didnt have anybody else the last two years. Mason should step in just fine. I do agree though that Frankamp isnt much of a PG. He wasnt much of a PG in HS, either. Frankamp is a scorer. Hes not a distibutor, and his ceiling defensively is not extremely high even though I could see him being an above average defender when its all said and done. Mason is quicker, stronger, and a much better distributor and has the ability to push the pace. Frankamp is, and should always be, a combo Bill Self guard. And theres nothing wrong with that. Hes going to be a 1,000 pt scorer minimum

Is this right? Frankamp was never a PG in HS? I don't know where I got the idea that he was a PG. Well, hopefully both of these guys see a lot of improvement by next season. I agree about Mason. I think he showed enough last year that he should be the frontrunner for the starting spot.

He was projected by the recruiting services as a point guard, and played PG on the US National team (youths)... which i think contributes to the confusion about his natural positions.

Frankamp has always been a scoring guard, that is good with the ball in his hands (makes smart and sound decisions). He does lack the explosiveness to get by Good defenders at this level. But so did Naadir as a freshman. Tharpe improved over time, lets home frankamp does as well.

Mason is almost opposite of Frankamp in that he has the explosiveness to get by defenders but is not as natural a shooter, and makes less sound decisions.

If you took the best of both players and combine them, you basically have Sheron.

While we don't have a Sheron Collins elite type player, we have 2 very capable kids with tons of room to get better. Both of their strengths are very valuable to have.

Frankamp WAS a point guard in high school, and played PG for the USA U17 team that also had Tyus Jones on it.

I think what he meant is that Conner has been a scoring PG, not a distribution guy. Which is totally true. He played on the USA U17 team with Tyus Jones, Jabari Parker, Jahlil Okafor, Stanley Johnson, Dakari Johnson, and Justise Winslow... and led the team in scoring.

But Tyus Jones had 43 assists and Conner had 19.

Based on Self's comments this morning on 610, he feels that both Mason and Frankamp contribute the most with the ball in their hands. It would appear he wants his PG to distribute the ball more, so my dream of Frankamp running point might take a big hit.

All signs point (no pun intended) to Davonte Graham committing and being given a fair shot at winning the starting job this year, with Mason and Frankamp coming off the bench to spell Selden and Graham.

I figure Greene and Oubre will battle it out for that third perimeter spot.
