Alex Smith is a solid QB, sorry haters. Bucs win 5th game in a row.

Despite the common thought here that Alex Smith held down the team Sunday, Smith's overall production to the team yesterday graded out very positive in 3 rankings:
Smith: QBR 94.1, QB rating 99, PFF 71.9
Winston: QBR 83.6, QB rating 97, PFF 50.7

https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro...-for-bucs-win/

"Smith gained positive expected points (EPA) on 77 percent of his plays on Sunday, the second-highest rate for a QB in a game this season (Dak Prescott, 83 percent versus Chicago in Week 3). Put simply, more than three-fourths of his plays contributed to the team’s scoring margin, given the context and situation." - http://www.espn.com/blog/statsinfo/p...s-excels-again

This is why we should use our brains instead of repeating the garbage fed to us by Mellinger and Teicher. If Smith only had 34 plays yesterday to do something with the ball and earns both a rushing and passing TD, a FG, to 1 INT (first red zone interception since 2013) and completes an outstanding 77% of passes ... we should probably focus on the real problem yesterday: The Defense. Who didn't show up and allowed Winston/Martin to hold the ball for 35 minutes, earn 24 first downs, and convert 68% of 3rd downs (league average is 40%).

Against the Bucs...

Alex Smith: 1 INT, 99 QB rating
Philip Rivers: 2 INTs, 80 QB rating
Russell Wilson: 2 INTs, 39 QB rating
Drew Brees: 3 INTs, 49 QB rating

The Chiefs have that record and 46 guys dress for game day. Records are not an excuse for an individual's level of play. While I would agree that stats don't always tell the whole story, pretending wins do is nonsense. I hear the phrase "all he does is win" thrown around here. No, he doesn't win. The Chiefs win. He helps facilitate wins. How well he is operating within the construct of each game plan the Chiefs' coaching staff has set up is only for them to know with 100% certainty. However, watching his film shows many miscues and missed opportunities. He is safe until the Chiefs have a better alternative presented to them, but he is far from untouchable.

I agree, and that's why I stated that unless he is forcing turnovers and facilitating losses, Reid is not going to dump him.

And you listen to the other player interviews and how they have his back, it would have something very dramatic for McNabb to be off the roster by 2009

What I don't understand is this: you idiot homers supporting him *ONLY* do it because he's a Chief. If he was a Bronco you'd be ****ing laughing your sloppy tits off at how bad he is.

And the question is, if you TRULY care about the Chiefs and want to see them win CHAMPIONSHIPS -- not regular season games against pathetic teams in lucky fashion -- why wouldn't you be first in line to get this turd out of town so that a REAL QB can lead this otherwise talented team where it belongs?

You people are truly an embarrassment. Each and every one of you is probably in that Eric Fisher GIF. I can't even imagine how much jerking you must've done in the 90s, while other teams were busy actually winning.

Dont even have to be a Bronco.

Think about all the QB's this place has "laughed at" or attempted to discredit who are infinitely better than Alex. Christ, this place has criticized 4,000 passers who have won a SB, while defending Captain "Non-Concussion" Concussion.

You could damn near pull a QB's name at random out of a hat, pair them with this defense, and they'd be a contender. But unless the defense goes on a 2000 Ravens-like run, Alex Smith isn't one of those names.

Because winning is the ultimate deodorant. It's as simple as that. The D giving up bombs to shit QBs like Semen is just as inexcusable. Ultimately it comes down to ball security and elite special teams paired with a defense that tightens in the red zone. They all work in unison, stats be damned.

Ball security, a vicious defense, and elite special teams. There is no other way they can consistently win like this...and yes it isn't a fluke when it's been happening for four years.

Every now and then, a post comes along so profound, so poetic, so earth-shaking, and so erotically sensual that you want nothing more than to make love to it and buy it a double-chocolate dipped Mercedes Benz as a way of saying, "thank you for ****ing me so good".

This...

...is such a post.

I don't know abut that, I'll definitely agree the defense has been opportunistic, but I find it pretty hard to call the 28th ranked defense in yds/gm stout. Granted their knack for getting TO & stopping other teams in the red zone has helped keep the offense in games. However it's also worth pointing out that the fact that they give up so many yards leads to us being in the lower half of total drives.

This is true with two MAJOR asterisks:

1) Having a good QB will always give you a chance to overcome this regardless, while having a decent defense will NOT always give you a chance to overcome the pathetic production Alex Whiff gives

2) Our D specifically doesn't give up bombs with regularity, so the damning is less consistent, while Alex Whiff is gutter trash week in and week out

It's not about how many deep balls or the lack thereof get thrown or even completed.

It's about having a QB that makes defenses and D-Coords say, "we can't rely on any kind of tendency for the QB we are about to face". "We have a general idea, based on a collection of film, of what this guy is capable of, but we can't stack the box and force this QB to beat us on intermediate to longer passes, because he will do exactly that".
