Yeah I saw something yesterday that some congressmen were looking at the overbooking rule. Which is kind of ironic since this wasn't really an overbooking issue, it was fully booked & then crew members needed to get on. Although maybe you could argue the flight was actually overbooked but just enough people missed the flight for it to be full. In which case had they not overbooked they could have used the seats of the people that didn't show for their crew.

I am very interested in hearing how much they offered him, why he was chosen to be removed and how they defend what they did. This should make a great case study on how to manage passengers in this situation.

1) From what I read he initially refused because he had to see patients the next day.....since the point was raised that the reinstatement of his license meant he could only see outpatients one day a week, did he have patients scheduled for the next day? 2) Additionally, what I read is that he got off then ran back on. Don't know about anyone else but if someone got taken off the plane and then ran back on, wouldn't that make you as a passenger a little concerned?

I hope UAL gets hit hard, maybe it will make the other airlines who seem to view passengers as burdens, a bit more friendly and open-pocketed about overbooking and compensation.

It's not like they don't make plenty of money on the "extras" these days.

This will be damaging to him in the courts, now they can use that they removed him because he ran back on the plane AFTER he initially agreed to get off the plane without incident. Then after back on, started the whole you have to remove me forcefully mantra...

As the Capt I would of booted his ass right there and claimed that we were fearful for our crew and aircraft. I would of labeled him a potential terrorist and held up the flight until the FAA was notified and FAA air marshals were on scene. I would of used that avenue to label him permanently and let the FAA put him on the "Do Not Fly" list... I would of seen how he liked that.
