We also get to spend $9.1 million in bonus money before the penalty's kick in. The Cubs $2.2 million.
That's ok, the Cubs arent begging for picks right now.

1B, SS, 3B, LF, and RF are all locked up for the forseeable future with young talent and they've already got prospects knocking at the door for C (Contreras) and CF (Almora/Happ) and depending on if Baez can calm down a bit at the plate 2B is pretty locked up, if he can't, they've moved Happ to fulltime 2B. Hell, if they wanted to they could put Baez at 3rd and move Bryant to RF and Heyward to CF after Fowler declines a QO.

The only real thing to be a slight bit concerned about is the Cubs SP. The top 4 are all over 30. I think Hendricks is a really really good bottom of the rotation pitcher and hes young, but unless the Cubs can come to an agreement with Arrieta then they may be looking at turning over 3/5 of the rotation in 2 years.

I watched a couple minutes of the Cubs game last night to catch a comical Heyward at bat. Ross smartly worked him inside and he literally looked like a 9-year-old that was afraid of the ball. Predictably, he struck out looking on an inside strike. Maybe someone will fix his swing over time, but it doesn't look like he has made progress thus far.

He's been on the bench with a wrist injury the last couple games. Only reason he was in was because Fowler got tossed.

Len and JD have already been making comments about Mallee working on his swing. It doesn't look like anything has changed yet, gonna be hard to break a 3 year habit, but I expect it will look different by the end of the season. I would like to see what Manny Ramirez would do with him. Lots of guys struggling to hit that were sent back down praise the shit out of Manny.

The guy has a shit ton of physical ability. If someone can fix his swing, he could be hall of fame caliber. But at this point he is such a headcase at the plate that I don't hold out too much hope for that.

Martinez can't find the strike zone.

Gonna be a 3-0 game before too long.

The box score suggest something not good might have happened to Martinez?

The damn game is blacked out where I'm at. Killing me because Carlos is the one pitcher that I like watching pitch.

Better hope so. I'm not watching but they have a replay on the Cards website and he looked like he was straining. He was holding his left ribs after a pitch and then Yadi was translating on the mound and pointing towards his shoulder.

Announcers said something about it looked like an oblique injury. I was just speculating because they said fatigue.

I'm not buying the fatigue BS. Why is Yadi, who is translating, pointing at his shoulder for fatigue? Carlos was grabbing his ribs.

Anything that the Cardinals medical staff initially says is usually wrong and complete BS.

Wainwright is awful.

This is sad to see one of my favorite Cardinals looking like a shell of his former self.

I guess getting out of that mess with only two runs scored is a win.
