Donaldson was a bit banged up at the end. Beane always says "better to trade a guy too early than too late" and this may be an example. Lawrie is decent and cheap. I wouldn't declare this a loss for Beane this quickly

Well if you go Donaldson as a bit banged up then you should classify Lawrie as dead and gone! He's missed over 180 games in three seasons from injury alone! Not to mention his great under-achieving power numbers. He is relatively cheap though.

I would much rather have Santana than Shields. Shields is not worth the money he's going to get period.

I'm coming back to Nelson Cruz. I suspect we would play him mainly at DH (partially nullifying my argument), but he would be serviceable enough in the outfield to use him there 50 games a year, using banged up guys/Salvy in the other ones at DH.

We need a thumper in the middle of the lineup. It would instantly give protection to Hosmer, and give us a guy who consistently puts an OPS in the 820 + range every year.

Predictions on what his market is like now?

We need to make a trade and a big signing, IMO.

Ideal:
Trade for Kennedy, Sign Cruz

Also:
Trade for a bat (Kemp, Gattis, etc), sign Santana.

We did well today. The bullpen is better without Crow and with Frasor. Adding a couple players for Crow is just a bonus.

Still a lot of work to do, though.

Oh yeah, and I'd love to see us get a deal done with Alex, too. Royal for life.
