Nolan's Batman 3 Title
Batman sequel 'Rises' again
LOS ANGELES - THE next Batman sequel has a title: The Dark Knight Rises. Distributor Warner Bros. confirmed the name for director Christopher Nolan's third adventure about the DC Comics vigilante hero, which follows Batman Begins in 2005 and The Dark Knight in 2008. The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters July 20, 2012. Bucking Hollywood's current wave of 3-D movies, Nolan is not planning to shoot the film in 3-D. Warner Bros had agreed with Nolan's argument that the sequel should resist the 3-D craze, the director told the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog, which first reported the title. Nolan would not reveal what villain might appear in The Dark Knight Rises, but he said it would not be the Riddler, one of the key bad guys in the comics and past film and TV Batman tales. Earlier this year, Nolan said he would not resurrect the Joker, the cackling villain played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Ledger won the supporting-actor Academy Award for the role, a year after he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. -- AP |

You know, everyone assumes this is Nolan and Bale's last Batman film. But has anyone actually asked anyone involved? I mean, Nolan doesn't own the intellectual property; if they (meaning, the studio and future director of a hypothetical "Justice League" product) can entice Bale by saying he wouldn't be the focus of the film and would only need to put in short work for a big paycheck, I can see him agreeing. If the new Supes (Cavill) is successful and that film makes big bucks, I could see it happening. Even a "co-starring" Batman would be a huge boost to a "JL" film.

It all hinges upon a successful "Man of Steel" reboot though.

There was a rumor that a "Man of Steel" teaser would be attached to this new Batman flick.
I think its supposed to come out next summer? Im extrememly curious about it because i love Nolan, but really torn on Zach Snyder.

I have faith in Snyder as a director, but as a writer, no ****ing way. Suckerpunch was one of those movies where people warned me it was bad, and it was still bad even with low expectations. That script was so weak. I think with a decent script, Snyder can do well with Man of Steel.
I know you guys will rip me for this, but I thought Batman Begins has pacing issues. I think if Nolan trimed 10 to 15 minutes from it, I would love it like everyone else. Dont get me wrong, it is still a good movie, but I have a hard time even saying it was one of Nolan's top 5 movies he's directed. My Nolan Films: 1-The Dark Knight 2-Inception 3-Memento 4-The Prestige 5-Batman Begins 6-Insomnia (the only stinker of the bunch) I expect The Dark Knight Rises to fight it out with Inception for #2 on that list bumping BB out of the top 5. As always, IMHO. I am sure alot of your Nolan lists differ greatly. The only thing I will fight for is Insomnia being his worst movie.

I'd probably rank Insomnia toward the bottom of my Nolan list, as well. But it's far, far, FAR from a stinker. It's a really good (reaching for great) movie.
Nolan's just made too many fantastic films. Some of them have to be toward the bottom. Though, I think, for me, Following is probably last on my list. |

Watchmen is the only Snyder film I've seen. I liked it. A lot.
And I think Nolan's involvement in the new Supes movie is only going to help it along so far. I'm still expecting a C+ at best, even with whatever inspiration Nolan is bringing to the conversation. |

Supes is a whole other beast. It's been discussed up and down around here on how to make an interesting story out of a God like character. It's almost the impossible task, and though I'll be seeing it, I expect nothing on th elevel of what Nolan has been able to do with his Batman franchise. |
