I was told that the initial idea for Edwards' spinoff was Boba Fett. But during the power struggle between Abrams and Michael Arndt, everything, and I mean everything, changed. Abrams "won" and is now solely responsible for the shape of the Star Wars Universe. Arndt's script was based on George Lucas' story for 7-9 and once he was fired, that entire story line was gone, too. Abrams then outlined everything in the Star Wars universe, including the Spin Off films, which changed everything. So those of you "worried" that Lucas had crappy stories for 7-9 should no longer worry because it's all gone. Iger is counting on Abrams vision to connect with public, so much so that they've already begun planning a massive Star Wars addition to Disneyland will feature the "New" Star Wars Universe, not the old. The bottom line is that it's tighter than Fort Knox over there, which is reason for such speculation, which IMO, is likely way off base. |

If I remember what I read, he anonymously sourced the Han thing. Could be misdirect, though.

They've gone from Kasdan writing the Boba Fett spinoff to Gary Whitta & Edwards and now just Edwards, although Simon Kinberg was linked and quickly denied. I would imagine the general outline of the film is in place, which is why they're able to get locations in place, sets, etc. but I'd imagine the dialogue, script and casting are months away, although clearly imminent, as the film's deadline quickly creeps upon them. And this is not to mention that Arndt was to write VII and Kasdan doing a spinoff and VIII & IX, but now, Rian Johnson is writing and directing those with Abrams only producing. I'll re-iterate my fears that they're rushing this entire process by setting unreachable deadlines but hopefully, I'm wrong. All of that said, I'm not too keen on a Han Solo appearance in the first spinoff while he's alive (as least, we expect him to be alive) in 7-9 because there will be too many comparisons with young Han to Harrison Ford. It just seems, well, weird. |

My, my, my, how things can change in the course of a few hours.
Chris Weitz, who wrote About A Boy and Disney's upcoming Cinderella, will now write the Gareth Edwards stand alone. Weitz also wrote, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which I've never seen. About A Boy, IMO, is an awesome film. He also directed American Pie, so maybe there will be some wry humor in the script as well, wink-wink. |

He's a good writer, director and producer that's connected well with the public and he's massively better than Gary Witta, so there's a good chance it's in better hands.
I still haven't seen Gareth Edward's Godzilla but it's on the DVR. I have know nothing about his vision, aesthetic and feel. Hopefully, it'll be "Classic" Star Wars... |

The Godzilla reboot was really, really good.
I'm pretty disappointed. edit - I guess he's still directing. I'm good with this I guess.

Chris Weitz, on the other hand, has been a part of some very, very good films. It's hard for me to see this move as anything other than positive at this point. |

While I agree, most of these "rumors" haven't been rumors at all, but massive speculation. The Latino Review article was taking leaps and bounds based on locations. To me that's not rumor but an effort to drive traffic.
