The NFL isn’t stupid. They chose the right game to stream on Peacock, as they hooked in millions of Swifties. Beyond the NFL putting this on a stream I normally wouldn’t have in my repertoire, my feed sucked. That was my biggest complaint.

This was just a test run, which appears to have been successful. That's good news for the greedy multi-billion dollar corporations, and bad news for all of us. Like we're not getting squeezed on all sides already.
When will it end? The answer is, it won't. |

yeah putting the Chiefs on there was a no brainer. Either you like the Chiefs and will pay to watch them, or you hate the Chiefs and want to see them lose. This isn't 2014, I would imagine there's very few people who are invested in the NFL that don't have a positive or negative opinion of the Chiefs. I can't totally say that I owuldn't have paid $5 to see Brady eat shit in a WC game

Given the fact they had over 20 million people streaming it, I am kinda surprised the damn thing didn't crash. So props to them for upgrading their servers and whatnot to deal with the demand. |

Hell, if it was Chiefs/Steelers from a couple years ago or if the Chiefs were already rolling on offense this season, I probably would have just found a free stream.... much less paying to watch the other shitty WC games.
It was obvious the Chiefs would either play anything above a C game and win fairly easily or have an unwatchable game and risk losing... but it was worth the $6 to watch Mahomes flip the switch and to watch the defense dominate, since we've seen so little good football from them lately. And the GDT was in good spirits, so despite some people watching on the local NBC in KC and being a bit ahead, it was still better to be on Peacock than a free stream so it wasn't even further behind..

I pay for Sunday ticket because it gets me access to out of market games like the chiefs and EVERY game in the nfl. It’s still overpriced and I hope the nfl gets clobbered for price gouging. But this gets me access to games that were otherwise not supposed to be accessible. I get it - nfl only has a few slots and they’re going to favor local broadcasts, and people who live in local areas can by and large see the teams they want. I consider Sunday ticket a privilege to be able to see games not intended for me. Side note, but offering Sunday ticket as a dish only solution in the past was shitty too. But we’ll leave that aside. That is very different from taking a game that has always been free on a network that is supposed to be free, and deciding to throw it to ppv. Not a free trial, flat out ppv. So yeah I could’ve easily afforded to subscribe and cancel, but I don’t want the nfl to get the message that they can just toss out little surcharges here and there. |

Are any additional NFL games this year going to be shown on Peacock-only?

No, so sports bars who didn’t want egg on their face for not having a playoff game on tv probably had to pay a cool few thousand and get a full year subscription for the rights to show a single game.

As much as we hate it the NFL knew what they were doing and the fans proved it. People complained about it being on Peacock and still watched it in record numbers. They put the biggest draw (KC) with the addition of Swift and like moths to a flame people came. This will just encourage the NFL to put more games on streaming sites in the future because they know the fans will watch and pay.

All of this is smoke and mirrors.
NBC paid 110 million. Gained a bunch of new subscribers for a month. Earned a lot money. Gets to brag on social media. Months from now, people get fed up with paying another service. Cut it. NBC cannot figure out why. They wont go under, but could lose money at some point.
